Hey guys, I'm new to this form and Subaru cars too
I bought a second hand MY04 Subaru liberty 2.5i -premium pack (Well under Victorian law, I can't yet drive turbo charged cars) , and the brakes do suck. I went to the car wrecker the other day and picked myself the front callipers off a MY04 liberty GT. planning to restore the callipers, then put it on my car.
But I didn't take off the brake master cylinder and rare brake callipers, DO I NEED THEM?
What brake fluid and pads should I use?
Thanks in advance for your time.

No, the rears and master cylinder will be fine - I am using DBA T2 and Intima SS Pads, I got them from
http://www.streettotrack.com/ but there's several vendors and brands you can use - dixcel and QFM are good as well.

I have 05 Gt brakes on my Gen3 RX with dixcels all round, no problems what so ever, will be a very good upgrade.
Also while your at it get some braided lines will help improve the pedal feel

How about the disks. Is the stock front disk ok with the GT Callipers.
Also while checking your profile, I liked the headlights on your car. How did you black out the headlight housing from inside?

No, they are a different size.
My headlights are standard, the picture just makes it look like that because of the exposure - You can do it though, by opening them up and painting/tinting the insides. Leo (hks180) can do this, or you can DIY.

Sorry to bother you mate but since I'm new to Subaru
Where can I buy front rotors for GT?
From DBA website I found this part DBA 2650 but I'm not sure if it is the right part.

Front DBA4000 GT rotor part number is 42650 for post-facelift models - 316mm vented, or part # 4650 for pre-facelift models - 295mm vented.
EDIT: Actually it's 42650 for all 3.0 and GT models and 4650 for the 2.5i model. Sorry for the confusion, folks.
While you don't strictly need the rear calipers and rotors to match your setup, they do help with EBD balance (which stops the steering wheel from fighting left and right when you're in a heavy ABS situation).
On a side note, I wholly recommend upgrading your Master Brake Cylinder to a WRX STi model, though - pumps 13% more brake fluid to the calipers for the same amount of pedal and is a very cheap upgrade. Also consider a Master Brake Cylinder brace - is also cheap and will stop the firewall flexing, meaning all that pedal force is going purely to the calipers, not elsewhere and makes for a nice and stiff brake pedal that doesn't need to go deep to work effectively.

mehh i would personally consider upgrading the master cylinder and brace probably overkill for a 2.5i.
Edit: But go for it if your bored!

Just a quick question, Is the MY04 GT front brakes a straight bolt on into a MY04 2.5i NA. Also, where should I buy the replacement seals and dust capes for each piston.
Thanks heaps people.

Yeah will fit no worries, not sure where to get seals and dust caps though. I have MY05 GT brakes on my Gen 3

Great news. Well I have already taken off the pistons from the calliper, just don't know where to get them seals and dust caps. I found a repair kit in the states for around $15 but the shipment costs $55. Should I just walk to a Subaru part store.
Also, need some suggestion, what colour should I paint the callipers, black or silver for a black coloured car.
Cheers guys,

Contact Subaru Parts - if you're nice they'll sometimes give you Trade Price. You can also try contacting Mark (cruisn) on these very forums to find out where he sources his kits from.

If you're going for the murdered look, black. If you want contrast, silver.
Check out my car in my profile to see silver against black (for Brembo's anyway).

Are you talking gt or spec b here?

Actually I made a mistake there - the 42650 is for all 3.0 and GT models. The 4650 was for the 2.5i model. Sorry about that.

Mate I'm impressed. I quite liked the silver colour. Did you mix the colour yourself or used a spray can. I can only afford spray can at the moment lol
Where should I get them spray cans? haven't bought one before
Cheers
