Snapped centre bolt on Bilstein strut.

Postby rolltosave » Wed Mar 04, 2015 7:13 pm

As the topic suggests the centre bolt in my left front strut has snapped and left the strut knocking around in the tower making an awful racket.

Has anyone else had this happen on one of their cars before?
I had an alignment done recently and the camber was waaaaaay out... would this have weakened the strut?
Could the guys doing the alignment potentially weaken the strut?
It happened in a car park today as i went over a bump. Not even quickly (like 5 kph).

I am now in need of a replacement, however i was going to get the shockworks coilovers from owen down the track..... now i figure i just get them now and be done with it?
Any suggestions, advice, feedback is very welcome.

Ricco had this happen in a Gen5, but I've not seen it in a Gen4 personally

Yeah I didn't think it was a very common problem. Aaarwell I might have to get some replacement billies in the interim.... Looks like it could be a while till I can get those shockworks units.

You won't regret stepping up right now :)

Make sure you check your other bushes, the state of the hubs, and consider upgrade LCA bushes and Avo hd rear swaybar mounts as even stock sways can bend those :)

Awesome. Im just about to put a deposit down with Owen.
All the bushes seemed to be in pretty good nick when i checked over them while i had the car up on stands doing all the fluids.
Im looking at putting on some dba rotors soon so i will check the hubs then.

You seem to be pretty pleased with how they are handling on your car Benny. Its unfortunate the way this had to happen but hopefully its a blessing in disguise.
I wouldnt have got this past the finance minister otherwise. HAHA. Cant wait now.
