New to wheels - Rays Engineering

Postby gumbyy » Mon Jul 21, 2008 10:15 am

Hi Guys,

I've managed to narrow down my wheel selection to one of the following in 19"

http://www.nengun.com/rays-engineering/g-games-77s-vaio (gunmetal)
http://www.nengun.com/rays-engineering/volk-racing-ce28n (titanium silver)

What do you think?

Where can I get these wheels cheapest? Reliable sellers? As they are pretty expensive I'd really like to get the best deal possible..

Also, I know this is such a noob question, but springs or coilovers? I don't know the pro's and cons besides the price difference..

both a nice

try phat for a price.... would be my first point, he will also let you know about the springs or coilovers debate, it come down to your use and price your willing to pay.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

I'd get the 77S VAIO. Much classier looking wheel.

However, at the end of the day it comes down to what you're trying to do with your car. Do you want an elegant finish or a sportier one?

Troy, I never realised you were handicapped! I'm sorry dude.

All those jokes I made about wheelchair bound folks must have as insensitive as a paralyzed guy's useless legs. Sorry man!

As for the wheels, I kind of like the CE28N's. They tend to have more curve which does kind of make them look a smaller size than they actually are, but the curves also adds a lot of dimension to the wheels, so it doesn't look as flat. Plus the Vaio's has 1 too many holes showing, making for a rather industrial look (although they may be less apparant with the gunmetal colour) compared to the smooth lines of the CE28N's.

There was quite a bit of discussion about that here:

Things to keep in mind:

- budget
- purpose (looks or performance)
- meticulousness (just how pick are you concerning ride height)
- flexibility (do you need to raise or lower it now and then)

Nice! I've been looking for pics of gunmetal CE28N's on a black GT for ages, THANKS! Can you post more photos from different angles please? What size are they? I think gunmetal was a custom colour, is that true? If you don't mind me asking, how much did they cost? Where did you buy them from?

Thanks Clarence, I am after an elegant finish more so than a sportier one.

Thanks for the links mate. Hmm budget.. well i called up Stamford in Fairfield this morning and they quoted me $3820 for the Vaio in 19".. a little dearer than I expected. On top of the wheels I will need rubber and then the lowering so yeh I don't really know what my budget is at the moment lol..

Purpose well they will be more for looks than performance.

I wouldn't know if I need to raise or lower it now and then.. for what purpose would I need to do that?

Also I am still eager to know people's recommendations on places to source these jap import wheels. I understand Mike (Phat GT) is the 'go to' guy on this forum but I've had a somewhat frustrating pre-sale experience with him. Mike, if you read this I'd be happy to get a quote from you mate but I really hate to chase up things from people that I'm happy to give my business to.. I'm sure you had your reasons.

Spend a day with Phat Vina! You'll understand why. Mate he probably gets over 50 calls a day. 10 of them are actual serious orders. If you want prices dont do it over the phone. Email or PM him.

Trust me Vina you will have alot more change in your pocket if you purchase through Phat.

Free plug for Phat!
