Wangan Coil springs

Postby matty_et » Wed Jul 09, 2008 8:12 am

hi i have a my06 2.5i manual liberty and i found these springs made by Wangan on www.japanparts.com they are the DD superdown series. however they dont have the 2.5i listed in the part where you choose what model car your after, they have BL/BP... GT, 3.0, 2.0i and a 2.0R im guessing the 2.0i and 2.0R would probably be the same as the 2.5i. can anyone confirm this for me and also has anyone used this brand spring before or know anything about them. also they state that the springs will lower around Front 35-50mm, Rear 25-40mm depending on model, whats your view on lowering to that extent on the stock shocks.

thanks.

hey yeh ive just heard mixed views on the kings, such as there purely for lowering and dont really care about ride quality. kinda turned me off....oh well still thinking about it..i just like the heights the wangans drop the car to.....i could be the test dummy haha

Um.. no.

FWIU You 'ride' on the shocks, not the springs. Springs only push shocks back up, and as such, don't really affect the ride, unless they are too low, in which case the shocks don't have enough travel..

Anyway.. let us know how the 'wangans' go..

Springs do affect ride quality. Different spring rates will have different effects to both ride comfort and handling. Too firm will grip well on track but on bumpy roads, you will end up bouncing around.

Shocks are also important Stavros, but for different reasons.

im preety sure the springs play a major role in ride quality, you actually do ride on the spring and the shocks or dampers are there just dampen the spring so as your not bouncing up and down constantly. if you were to take the springs out of the car, the shocks would compress completly and you would be bottomed out. so you have to be riding on the spring.
