Upgrading stock rotors/pads 05 Liberty GT?

Postby empyrean » Fri Dec 05, 2014 6:31 pm

Hey all, long time listener, first time caller.

After many years of wanting a liberty, finally came around to buying a very tidy looking 2005 Liberty GT manual last week.

A little bit about the car, it has 107,000km and has done 6,000km is past two years. The bloke who owned it moved to Sydney 18 months ago with the intention of coming back to it but never has. There for it's been left mostly dormant with his folks driving once in a blue moon to keep things going. Only issue I noticed on test driving is a fair bit of brake shudder, it seemed like a layer of rust had formed on each of the discs.

I've taken the car to a local automasters (that's owned by a close family friend and was assured he'd look after me like he always has) for it's 100,000k service and timing belt replacement. I'll be honest, price so far is higher than I initially anticipated but I suppose that's what you get.

It seems that the rotors/pads definitely need replacing, and I've been quoted $440 each pair ($880 total)

If I'm already forking out $880 for stock, is it worth me upgrading the stock discs/pads? Quick search on here and eBay comes up with recommendations on DBA discs.

The car is completely stock and my first 'performance' car, I'm not planning to go balls out (until I get addicted) but wouldn't mind some of the entry level mods people do on these beautiful cars.

Any chance of pointing me in the right direction of aftermarket discs/pads?

Thanks all,
Kevin

Job done :) cheaper and betterer. Spend the extra on a set of braided lines and your braking will be massively better. The stock pads/rotors are terrible.
Given your requirements I wouldn't bother with T3, I'd message Paul and get a price for T2s and SS pads all round, you don't need SRs.

I run T2/SR on my car (fronts only for now) and they are fantastic.

Also: congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forums! I also recently purchased my liberty also, and I am loving it.

Okay next question, I have a friend who has 4 spare braided brake lines from an 05/06 BA XR8.

Will they fit or is there a lot more to it than interchangeable lines?

I would never use braided lines that aren't made for the right car/model/year/etc. You can pick up braided lines for around $200 so do that if you are going that route.

What Alex said. Paul can also sell you a set of braided lines :)
