fitting "wide" wheels

hi all,

have come across a few problems in attempting to fit 18x8.5 +35 wheels properly on my 2005 Liberty. current tyres are 225/40/18 and stretched slightly to fit, yet still poking approx. 18mm.

planning on lowing the car with BC coilovers in the future, though wondering if i'll still have issues? guard pulling and rolling required? is it time to cut my losses and get wheels that fit?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rolled guards and some -ve camber will get them pretty close to fitting with a 225 I reckon... Depends how low you go!

8.5" isn't wide, +35 is a low-ish offset thou.
Roll the rears (get rid of that pinch weld on the inside too), add that Whiteline bush kit to the rear for some camber and done.

thanks for the replies. forgot to mention the poke is on the front only, whereas the rear sits pretty much flush (maybe out by ~5mm) on stock suspension.

hoping to organise the coilovers soon, so will update this things start happening.

also, can anyone link me to the correct whiteline kit?

I used to run 8.5 +35 on my car with a 10mm spacer in the rear. Heres what it looks like fitment wise. Once you lower it more the wheels will camber in naturally plus the coilovers should have adjustable camber tops at the front.

What size rubber you runnin with that setup?

I been looking at 18x8 unsure of offset as yet maybe +43

35 is a good offset for 8 inch wide wheels. 43 is too high

Will 235/40s fit no issue? Or maybe a slight roll front and back. Looking at coilovers down the line when the billies pack it in

8.5 inch is better for a 235/40 tyre.

if you dont want to roll guards and what not, go for a 18x8.5 with offset in the 43-45 range.

so the coils went in, had the car lowered, cambered (with the rear kit) and had all the guards rolled, and have no real issues any more. unfortunately no photos of the before but the front definitely sits a lot more flush, albeit still approx. ~5mm out.

to be honest, i have never driven with a full load of people since i've owned the car, which has been about 2 years now.

not really comparable, but i did drive home with the old suspension & stock wheels with tyres in the back with no scraping after getting the work done.

That's a bit of weight in the back. Probably equivalent to 2 people. Thanks for the feedback
