So I'm currently running 205/40/18 on 8.75" wide wheels that the retailer put on coz they didn't want to add camber. I'm running bc br coilovers set relatively low.
I originally thought the difference in tyre width wouldn't be a huge difference but it's a crap load more stretch than I wanted.
After an alignment with a proper suspension shop I get about 15mm clearance between the tyre and guard on -1 degree at the front (rear plenty more so I'm not worried). Theoretically I should be able to fit 225/40's in there right? I don't really want to run more camber.

Ps. If you want to swap tyres I've got only 1500km's on the Forceum tyres (don't know if it's good or bad) 205/40/18. Just pm me and let me know

225/40 will fit better (still stretched a bit) but with only 1 degree camber you will probably scrub a bit, are your guards rolled? What offset are your wheels?

Why not buy wheels that fit properly and tyres that are the proper width for the rims

8.75" wide. It's probably fair to assume XXRs? +35 or +20, either way. You're gonna have a bad time

FYI camber doesn't kill tyres as bad as most people think, toe does...

You'd need a comfortable 2 degrees camber and rolled guards with the 225/40 and you'll still scrub on big bumps

Get some whiteline rear camber bushes (kca399) so you've got some control of the rear camber while you're at it

Too much camber and lots of caster (standard in Gen4 Liberty) also makes the car skittish to drive once the weight transfers onto the oustide of the car.
Good for the track, doesn't make a car pleasant to cruise

Yeah they're all rolled. And yes +35. All good at the rear, even if the tyres face was flat it would fit without scrubbing.
But I do understand that I probably have to work on the front. Okay so 225 should fit with a bit extra camber right? I have heard a good toe saves tyres, what kind of toe should I be running or inquire about of I get it realigned?

0' toe all round is my preference.
But you're also complicating things with a much wider track width than standard, (+40mm)

Dont be all caught up in the width of the tyres alone.

Different manufacturers use different ways of determining width and sidewall design.

I needed new tyres for my BBS 7.5" rims, wanted to go 205/50/17. Had two fitted, one a Federal AZ01, the other a Zetum Sport and the sides of the tyre were approx 8-10mm OVER the edge of the tyre on both sides.

Laid the wheel with the 205 down and beside it lay down a wheel with a 215/4517 in a Kuhmo Ecsta and another with a Bridgstone Ecopia same specs.

Low and behold, the 205 sidewall to sidewall was 20mm wider than the 215's.

So basically minimal toe? Ill definitely look into that more thanks.

And mark, that's exactly what I was wondering. Like any weird factors that might not allow it to fit or make it harder to fit.

Hmm I don't suppose tyre shops would be all too keen to let me test fit tyres unless I was buying hey. I do have a mate that's got same specs on the same wheels but different tyres, I can probably ask to try his out just for a bit more reference.
