WTF did someone just try to steal my wheels?

Gave the wagon a good shampoo and wash this morning, and when I got to the wheels I saw this:

WTF. Last time the wheels were touched was when a new set of Michelin PS2s installed last Oct by MWT. They're a good mob so I highly doubt that they would have undertightened the wheel bolts, certainly not to that degree. Only thing I can conclude is someone had a go a stealing my wheels. They are 17x7 Work 11Rs in a combination finish of polished silver and shadow chrome -- courtesy of Wheel Meister Cruisn :D This is a weekend only car that sleeps in a locked garage so I'm stumped at where it might have happened.

Feeling a bit paranoid, looks like I should get a set of McGuards lock nuts. Any good online places to order from, or should I just hit ebay?

Also, if anyone in the Melb eastern burbs has a spare stock wheel nut...please PM me.

As much as I'd personally love to steal your wheels :P I also think it was just undertighted... no workshop is perfect, I'll always go around retorquing wheel nuts after a workshop has touched it.

8 months is a fair amount of time.. Even if its a weekend car.. I also reckon its just fallen off. Definitely get some lock nuts just in case though :)

If the others are tight I would also imagine, one was left loose and worked off.

That said, get some proper nuts on there Maurice. You'll find the oem ones will start to gouge in a little. Get some with a larger seat area and spline or lock set wouldnt hurt either.

Muteki, McGard are very good, the WORK nuts mark to easily after a few uses.

Thanks Mark :D

Am having a look on the Bay of Fleas...Re sizing, is it 12 x 1.25 regardless of the seller saying its for a Lib/Foz or Rex? Also, should it have a conical or flat seat?

Yep, Subarus have 12x1.25 threaded studs. Wheels nuts should match the seating of the wheel. All Subaru wheels I've seen have conical (like OEM nuts) but there might be plenty that are not.

I bought a set of these fake (well almost certain they're fake) Rays here for my daily drive : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rays-Engineering-Wheel-Lug-Dura-Nuts-35mm-M12-x-1-25-Black-/321128253334

Standard 60 degree tapered seat Maurice.

Id advise against the fake RAYS ones. A mate had a set and after a number of times pulling the wheels on and off by hand, no rattle gun, they dont fair well.

I did just but these and theyre pretty good quality.
