Had a tyre blow the sidewall the other day. They are a Zeetum tyre, which was cheap, and have done ok. Managed about 35000km out of them. Not the best performing tyre, but for the driving i do they have been fine.

Looking for some new ones, and looking to hopefully go to something better than the Zeetum's. However, my local tyre shop quoted me $1250 minimum for a set of 4 Pirelli P1 Cinturato's in 225/40/18.

Called the guy, he seemed to know what he was talking about, apparently they were manufactured in 2012. Is there any reason why i shouldnt buy these. I know the old 'you get what you pay for' but they are a good brand, and seem like they would be fine.

Any one else have any dealings with these guys? Or any other recomendations? Idealy id like to get some nice tyres as cheap as possible. (am i asking too much?)

I recently got to try out some Pirello PZero's (the lowest of the PZero range) and coming from Federal Formoza FD2's, The PZero's were amazing in every way.
I have since put on Nexen N1000's on the car but I havent got the chance to try them out and compare them to the federals.

Have a look on Ozzy Tyres, they always have great specials on.

My Nexens were 50% off, plus I get their emails so I had a 15% off code to use in conjunction with the already half price tyres.

Essentially, the tyres were $240 ish each, I got them for $102 each. Ordered online on Wednesday night, they were delivered to my place (2 hrs down the highway) from Sydney on Friday afternoon

I got a set of 4 Pirelli Pzero Nero from ozzytyres for $790 delivered

I have read good reports about these, But these are also the Nero's, which from what i have read are slighlty less of a high performance tyre than the straight p-zero. They seem ok to me. And im sure they will be a big step up from the Zeetums. The Zeetums were new on the car when i bought it, previous owner had just replaced his P Zeros.

But the price concerns me. Although there are a couple of other deals around that seem ok as well.

I would go either the KU31 or the Hankook.

Would people say that 215/40 18 is too small for the pre face lift 18s?

The placard says the car should have a 215/45 18. I can get a good deal on some 215/40 with the correct load rating etc. but bob Jane are telling me they are the wrong size.

I'm fairly confident they will be fine mate, just lower profile so you would feel bumps a bit more

It would be a downgrade for sure.

If you want a 40 profile go for a 225/40 much much better.

A downgraded in which sense. The tyres are a far superior tyre.

And your rolling diameter changes, which means your speedo will be out too.

Most people I speak to tell me their speedo is about 9% out, reading higher than actual speed.

A 215/40-18 will make this worse, even a 225/40-18 is still a little on the small side diameter wise. You would need something similar to a 235/40-18 to get back to the original diameter but it will be too wide for the$ factory 7" inch rim.
