Hi guys,

I recently put a set of 18's on Gen 3 with no problems, however the other day I went down the M5 and noticed that at 80km/h there was a vibration coming up through the steering wheel.
When I had the new rims put on, I had 4 wheel balance, wheel alignment etc etc.
I checked the rims and one seems to be slightly buckled from a pothole (must've happened in the last week, while I haven't been freeway driving), it's miniscule and barely noticeable though and shouldn't affect anything, right?
There's no rocks in the tread and they have spacer's, so they are probably located on to the hub.
Weirdly 0km/h-80km/h there is nothing, but from 80km/h it's quite dramatic, then settles down as you go faster.
Tyres are 225/40/18 Bob Jane Xenon's (They came on the rims with 90% tread, so don't judge! )

Is it the small buckle causing the vibration? Or is there something else I should be looking for?

Fit your spare wheel in place of the damaged wheel and take it for a drive, at least this will rule it out as the possible cause

I had a BA XR6 with this problem. Damn it was annoying.

If the dent/buckle isn't really bad, a tyre shop should be able to balance it out.

Seems like a silly question but do you have hub rings on if the bores of the wheels aren't the same size as stock? This issue caused the same sensation as what you're experiencing on my previous car

Its also possible that hitting the pothole threw a wheel weight.

See if they can rebalance that wheel with minimal weights.

This happened to me, those weights are not always stuck on well and can come unstuck with excessive washing of wheels or just age.

Check your not missing any

It doesn't look like it, can't honestly say I noticed how much was on in the first place. They are the stick on weights though, which are pretty bad from experience, so could be.

That's what I meant by the spacer/hub locator things, I have them on each rim.

I was thinking of going to ALL MAG in Ingleburn to get it straightened. Has anyone had any experience there?

I have a day off tomorrow, so will throw on the spare and see what happens.

i had this same problem a while back ago and got phat gt to work his magic and get new LCA

Check your CV Shaft/Boots, If the joints are wearing out, especially if a boot is cracked open and oil has flicked out, that can cause your exact symptoms.

jst recently got my car serviced by tom kerr Subaru! was told my left CV shaft needed replacing !!
is this something has needs to be changed urgently or i can fix it up in a month or so!
ive actually been relising sometimes when driving at like 70km/hr and i brake abit im getting a shaky steering wheel!
buti was told that was from LCA which i changed from OEM to jspeed supplied by phat GT

If you say the rim has a bend in it that is almost certainly it I would say.

It doesn't take much of a bend to give you vibration and you'll find that it can be pretty specific to speed.
It might start vibrating when you get faster and then vibrate less again if you go faster still.

Also, if you checked the front for bends there might be a larger bend on the other side of the wheel, which will bend easier than the front face.

As others have mentioned, you can balance out minor bends.
If it is too large to balance, you can possibly get the bend fixed, but that depends on how bad it is, where it is on the rim, the quality of the rim, etc.
Also, depending on how much the rims are worth, it can be just as cheap to buy a new one if the damage isn't straight forward to fix.

Another possible cause I don't think has mentioned is tie rod related wobble/vibration, depending on the feel of the problem but I would bet on the wheel before spending money replacing any other bits and pieces.

If you can see the rim is buckled, this is likely to be the issue... Do whatever testing you can & go from there.

I did end up fixing my problem, by buying new rims.. haha.

But it was a buckle, this was exactly it:
