Bilstein/Pink STI Vs. Factory KYB Setup 2.5i

Hey guys,

I know this has been discussed numerous times, but i thought I'd give my take on the conversion as there have been differing results.

Did the conversion today with near new Spec B bilsteins fitted with Pink STI springs on my 2007 2.5i Liberty.

Contrary to previous opinions i didnt get the 10mm to 15mm expected drop from the pink springs. Ride height did not change at all. Measurment from centre of wheel to arch on front remained at 370mm and rear 360mm.

Despite the lack of drop in height I am very happy with the improvment in handling. Car sits nice and flat through corners. Some have described the ride as harsh....i completely disagree, general driving is not unpleasent at all. I definately recommend getting the bilsteins if you can for the right price, however would suggest an alternative spring to the pink STI's if you want it to sit lower.

Probs find your old kyb set up was soft and sagged and going to a stiffer probs lower k set up has retained close to sti height .

But good to hear your happy with your ride only been in one car with kyb and was a bit boat like

Thats a fair call, original suspension had close to 90k on the clock, plus the front drivers side strut was leaking oil (thanks pot hole) and the new bilsteins and springs only have a few thousand on them...

Not really surprised about the lack of drop - the 3.0 and GT engines are heavier than the 2.5i so that's where the expected drop would have come from.

There are pics elsewhere of someone else's 2.5i with near-new Billies using standard springs and they actually gained height at the front.

Have you done your swaybars as well?

No havnt done the sway bars...and i probably wont. The only reason I put the bilstein suspension in was because of my blown front strut. Subaru genuine parts wanted somthing like $250 for 1 strut and i paid $500 for all 4 billsteins and springs.

Ill prob sell my car before it get to 100k and buy a new WRX or find a low km STI liberty... so id prefer to save my money for that.
