Hey guys.

Recently grabbed nick__is's coilovers and I'm noticing that I'm getting a fair bit of noise from the rear struts/tyres I can hear when driving.

I thought my wheels might have been out of alignment, but took it to pedders and had it aligned. However, the sound is still there. It's not terrible, but I'd really like to get rid of it haha....

I didn't really notice this before I had the BCBR's put in. Is this most likely due to the firmer feel of the coils? It's pretty annoying....

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions what it might be I'd be greatly appreciative.

Obviously the first response will be have you checked all the mounting bolts/nuts?

I've had 2 sorts of 'problems' with mine so far. both have been stupid problems that should have never existed.
could be:
A - loose top nut (or other nuts/bolt)
B - preload (reset your preload)
C - many other things i have no idea about

thats my experience though and would be 2 things id check for

Nothing is too obvious for me mate

It sounds like the 'wobbly' hum noise you'd expect if your wheels weren't aligned... I don't know how to explain it better :s

I thought it might have been exhaust noise but I held the clutch in a bit longer than normal between gears and could hear it clearly so it's definitely coming from the tyres/wheels.

I don't know if I'm being pedantic- do you guys get much noise from your tyres? I've got KU31's running atm.

Cheers Jack. I think ill take it to a suspension shop next week to check them... I've seen how to do the fronts but haven't got a clue about the rears haha.

What sort of camber are you running now? Hows the wear on your tyres? Check for any low/flat spots.

Hey mate. I've got the alignment sheet in my car but I'm at work atm. Ill try run up to my car soon and have a look. From memory he didn't adjust the camber on the rears though (ill double check).

Firmer?

My BC V1's with 6f 8r are in and they feel softer and more compliant than the ancient billies they replaced.
They're set with around 10mm spring preload f&r and the damping (for running in) is set 10 clicks in from fully soft.

It's getting aligned and set at Trutrack next week.

Hmmm mine feel a lot firmer compared to my Billie/tein set up I had prior.

Anyone near Camden/Campbelltown keen to come out and drive my car on the weekend? You can tell me if I'm being too precious haha.

May be try backing off the damping?
Apparently they get rock hard well before the maximum damping hardness setting.

Going beyond the recommended range may result in failure (based on my research via google).

I'll be setting mine as soft as whats required to minimize bounce and pitching as per Trutracks recommendations..

When I had my BC BRs installed they were on full soft to start and the car felt a little spongy and bouncy so I adjusted them to 10 clicks from full soft and it feels a lot better now. Fairly stiff but not rock hard...

I had Billies/Teins and the BC BRs are a lot more compliant.

Turn your dampening all the way up to hard, then all the way to soft, then up 10 clicks. This is what I run both my cars at.

As Benny said, check the spring preload and make sure its 5-10mm. Some people adjust the spring seat as a means to lower the car. This will make it harsher and is not hows these are meant to set.

All height adjustments are from the bottom mount.

Are they solid or rubber mounts?

Thank you to everyone who replied!

Took it back to pedders and he said it has nothing wrong in terms of alignment.

He thinks the noise is due to the tyre having worn at a different angle previously, the new camber/tow position is now wearing against that grain and will continue until it wears more evenly. Fingers crossed.

If its not any better in a month or so I will have the coils professionally installed and adjusted, making sure that all things suggested here are looked at!
