Hey all.

I have a set of Rota Gravels (18x8.5 +44) which I know a few of you guys have.

The fronts stick out a bit too much for my liking. I was going to adjust the camber but thought I'd ask to see if anybody has had their offset adjusted? I rang a company today who will shave 6mm from the plate to bring the wheel in.

Are they're any adverse effects to doing this? Does anyone know of anywhere that is better than $75 a corner near Sydney/Campbelltown?

Depends how thick the existing face of the wheel is... 6mm seems like quite a bit to take off. I'd be worried about cracking near the centre of the wheel... Plus would +50 8.5" clear your struts?

Also, if you have close ended wheel nuts they might not do up all the way so may need to replace them...

Thanks for your reply Daniel. I've only spoken to them on the phone and they'll give me an accurate measurement on how much they can shave. 6 mm was the maximum, I'd have to check if they'd clear the struts (hopefully someone on here knows )

I guess you'd have to trust they know what they're doing.

As for clearance, just go to your car and see if there's more than 6mm of space between the rim/tyre and strut as you'll simply be bringing the rims closer by whatever amount is shaved off.

Did you get a print out of the before and after specs from the alignment?

Approx -1.5 out of the factory camber bolts.

I had this setting when I had billies with 8" +48 wheels and they sat inside the arch.

Take ou car somewhere else or adjust yourself and then tell them to do a thrust alignment only.

Hmmm fixing a problem, with another problem there.

I'd personally run away screaming if I was going to buy 2nd hand wheels and was told they had been shaved! Wheel companies do machine the mounting faces for some offset variances but this could introduce a number of issues when done later by a third party. I think your Rotas would be worth a lot less if you do this.

Perhaps either:
- get narrower wheels
- add more neg camber (perhaps not ideal)
- get guards rolled and maybe pumped a little if possible.

would clear coilovers but not sure about stock struts..

How is guard rolling going to fix the issue of wheels/tyres sticking out past the guards?

He probably meant pulled/flared.

I was under the impression a guard roller could also push (or pump) the guards out a little as well as flattening the lip. It's only 6mm he wants to move it.

Still absolutely pointless and unnecessary given the OP's wheel specs.

-1.5 deg is fine for daily driving, just make sure toe is set correctly. With a 20min adjustment there'll be no more issue.

Thanks for all of your replies guys. I was sketchy about shaving the plates on the wheels but wanted to see if anyone had done it.

Neg camber it is. Will book it in for Monday.

Failing that, sell ur rims. Shotgun! Lol
