Please help! Need shocks for Gen4 GT Spec-B

G'day,

Please forgive me, I'm a complete noob when it comes to suspension/shock absorbers.

I have a GEN4 GT SpecB (MY08). It's done about 125,000 km and there is audible noise coming from the front and back. My mechanic advised that the shocks need replacing.

So, I have no idea where to start. I like quick cornering, and willing to comprimise on comfort.

Do you have any suggestions on make / model of shock absorbers? and/or shocks to avoid? Pros and Cons?

I'll worry about price later - I just want to get an idea of what options I have available.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Do a search for:

Bilsteins Wheel Power + tein, king eibach etc springs.

and BC BR Coilovers.

You should find what youre looking for there.

Good quality coilovers.

If your not worried about price Ohlins or something like that. Other wise there are the Teins that are for sale in the members forum area through PhatGT or the cheaper BC BR series.

Alternatively there are replacement Bilsteins available through wheel power on Ebay if you want to stay standard.

Unless you want to corner weight your car or drop it stupidly low, get your Bilsteins rebuilt and revalved. They are very good shocks with crap valving, but if rebuilt with better valving your result will exceed that of any coilover under $2k and most of them under $3k.

Thanks for all your advice, appreciated.

To be honest, I never imagined you could spend up to $3k on coilovers. Now that I know this, price is definitely a factor

I'm really interested in going for coilovers, but leaving my options open, so also considering standard shocks.

Based on feedback from here (and elsewhere) I'm currently interested in Tein, Koni and Bilstein.

I have an uncle in the auto parts industry (retail), he's going to make some enquiries over the next couple of days and get back to me with options (coilover and standard).

Oh, and I should mention that I am definitely not interested in lowering my car, I just want to find the right balance between performance and ride.

Thanks again. Feel free to provide further advice or feedback.

If you aren't interested in lowering and don't want to spend heaps of money definitely go coyotes suggestion.

Ive heard a bit of the revalving getting done. Is it more worthwhile to get them revalved or buy a new set from wheel power on ebay for $550?

Are there any reccomended places to get them revolved at or will any suspension mob do?
I saw somewhere that a price around $120 per corner is a good price.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Sorry to hijack thread.
