hey guys I'm getting a typical squealing noise from the brakes you all know what I'm talking about so i wont go much into it...

but i have been shopping about for brembo kits for the 2008 GTB Liberty Sedan MT, and i have been told that there are no straight bolt on kits for this model...

then i thought well they are a top of the line brake kit and I'm only using my car as a weekend warrior and it will never see the starting line of a track..
so then i was leaning towards just getting some good slotted rotors and upgraded callipers, pads and obviously put brand new dot4 in it, which is the option i think i will opt for..

i have a budget of about $2k which i know if i save a bit more i could get brembos but i think for a weekend warrior i think brembos will be overkill??
are there any well respected quality brands out there that i should consider??

Surely $2k will cover brembos, PM cruisn and he can probably supply and paint for you. Brembos look mint

Do you have the stock Spec B wheels? If so, they won't clear brembos

There's a few things to consider when going down the Brembo upgrade route in my experience replacing my brakes with a set from a 2002 STi:

• The calipers themselves - most places on eBay will try and flog off the rears and fronts separately for $1000 a pair, total $2000. This is a rort. Almost any wrecker will give you a full set of calipers plus the pads that were on it (no rotors) for about $1000. I bought my front and rear set for AUD$1050 from a wrecker in NZ. He shipped them over to me for free.
• Disc rotors are the same size in your case, so no need to get alternate rotors. In my case I bought a set of secondhand front & rear STi rotors with a 100 PCD for $300 with more than 60% thickness left and had them machined for another $50.
• Will your wheels fit over the Brembo's? Factory wheels do not (except STi Enkei's), so in my case I had to go get another set of wheels and tyres. That set me back $1800 alone for Rota Gravel's and a new set of KU31 tyres.
• I believe the GTB rear disc rotors are also the same size as Brembo, so you won't need to do this, but I had to upgrade my rear handbrake shoes to suit the STi's rotor's larger 190mm size. This set me back $160.
• While the Brembo calipers are a direct bolt-on replacement at the front, the rears are not. You will need adapters which are custom made and sold by fellow member Cruisn on these forums. They will set you back $160 for one pair.

So without going any further, you have potentially spent around about $3000.

But your shopping trip doesn't end there. If you are getting bigger Brembo's for better stopping power, then you really should go the whole hog with the optional items:

• Replace all brake hose lines with braided brake lines. You need a six-line kit which averages around about $250 depending on vendor. Provides a firmer pedal.
• Replace your factory brake booster and master brake cylinder with the STi versions. This will set you back $160 from a wrecker. Provides a VERY firm pedal. Pushes 13% more fluid to the calipers too.
• New pads for the calipers if they are too worn out. In most cases it would only be the fronts that need replacement, so you can expect to pay around about $300 for replacement pads.
• If your Brembo's came from a wrecker, there's a good chance they'll be scratched. Consider getting Cruisn to repaint them for you for around about $250.
• Depending on how the Brembo's were treated by the previous owner, you may need a new seal kit. This is only about $80. I didn't need this in my case.

Of course, none of this includes labour however you can do all of this yourself bar perhaps the brake booster and master brake cylinder which requires some universal jointed socket extenders to undo it from the firewall. This step is of course optional, but it makes a heck of a difference.

For a weekend car, yeah - Brembo's are overkill, but they sure look purdy.

Finally, check with your insurance company first. Sadly, some of them interpret big brake upgrades as "you are going to drive faster and crash sooner".

Well I got a pm from someone about brembos and Im waitin on a reply..
And I have some aftermarket rims and the bremies won't fit so I'll need to get some ROTAs or ENKIEIS probably ROTAs though..

You will need new rotors.

Your current fronts are 316mm. Brembo fronts are 326mm.
Your rears are 275 or 295mm. (something around there.) Brembo rears are 316mm.

If its gets the odd weekend thrashing then you don't need brembo's or a big brake kit.

DBA 4000's slotted - $500 for front pair
Some nice pads all round - $500
Braided lines- $250

Having nice tyres will make a good difference too.

If you want brembo's which many people do.

Front n rear calipers $1500
Fresh coat of paint - $100 (DIY)
Brembo Decals - $20
DBA 4000's all round - $1000
Nice pads all round - $500
Braided lines - $250
Dog Bone Adaptors for rear - $200
Master cylinder stopper - $100

$3000-$3500 if you want to get nice rotors and pads.
You can save $1000-$1500 just by using the rotors and pads from the car the brembo's came off.

I have been looking at the dba 4000s and would it be worth it to get the XS ones or just the standard 4000's??


I'd rather the dba ones as I don't have rims that will fit the brembos..

The DBA T2 slotted series are great, I just installed a set on our wagon. As for a retailer, throw the below part numbers on a Google search and make a few phone calls.

Front - DBA 2650S
Rear - DBA 653S

Run these rotors with a set of QFM pads (ring GSL Rallysport), a decent set of braided lines and a good quality Dot 4 fluid.

You will be extremely pleased with the results and you'll have around $1000 left over from your $2000 budget to spend on other mods.

This is just my opinion, it's your money in the end so spend it how you like.

"Who makes a good quality fluid" is the million dollar question and you'll find about 200 different answers on this forum.

When I changed our fluid a month ago I used Castrol Response Super Dot 4, it's around $13 for a 500ml bottle.

IMHO the most important thing with brake fluid in any car is to change it regularly, leave the $50 a bottle fluid with the million degree boiling point to the track stars

Again, just my opinion mate, it's your money so spend it how you see fit.

I'm using the same stuff - works well for spirited drives IMO. No reason it shouldn't work for the occasional open track day either.

But I agree - replace it regularly if you track a lot.

Well I'll just grab a bottle of that then, like I said my car will never see the track...

But I need to get ontop of my brakes very soon... They are squealing very loud even know I'm not braking at least I hope it's my brakes

Re: brake fluid..

as has been mentioned... replace regularly or buy better stuff.... and replace regularly..

i used the castrol stuff mentioned in my track car once... it lasted about 45 laps of Wanneroo raceway (3x 15 lap runs..) before boiling to the point of utter uselessness..

That was with 2x 200+km/h to ~80km/h braking zones per lap.. so to be fair it did last ok...

moral of the story.. if you are going to a track day... replace before.... then replace after..

IMO- save the brembo money, invest in some decent rotors/pads/fluid.. unless you are going to have enough money left over after brembo swap to invest in better pads/fluid anyway..

Awesome pads in GT brakes > Average pads in Brembos..

You can get Brembo fibre glass/plastic stick on covers over you're current calipers.

Maybe they will help? haha
