GEN IV - GTB: Cheap Tyres

Hi All,

Had some quotes for some 'cheap' tyres, as im a bit cash strapped at the moment.. (anything will be better than what i have.. oem tyre @70k's.. but they have done well and are surprisingly still legal... JUST!)

Wondering if you have heard of any of the brands, any experience with road noise, handling in wet/dry or wear rates of the following tyres:
Obviously you get what you pay for, to a point.. so im not expecting any outstanding reviews.. just after some info...
mainly so i can stay away from ones that have the highest chance of aqua-plaining and sending me into a tree..


* Note All Tyres are: 225 40 R18. to fit the gen4 gtb rim.

(Will also include quotes which include F&B and places for anyone that's interested - All these places are located in Perth, WA.)


Marshall - No model supplied (Made by Kumho apparently) - $190ea (Midvale Tyre Plus)

HiFly - HF205 (Chinese made from what i have read) - $149ea (TTF - Canning Vale)

Triangle ... yeah, i laughed too.. - no model supplied (apparently known for truck tyres, and come out of the same stable as BF Goodrich) - $130ea (Beaurepares Midland)

Achillies - No model supplied - $145ea (TTF Maddington)

Goodride - no model supplied - $200ea (TTF Midland)

Zentum - no model supplied (again apparently made by kumho) - $167ea (Bob Jane - Midland)
Falken - ze912 - $225 (Bob Jane - Midland)

apologies if posting the prices/places breaks any forum rules.. not meant for advertising purposes - just general info so perhaps we can all benefit from it at a later stage.

Zetum.....

I had these on my GT and yes they are made by Kuhmo and similar to the KU31 tread pattern.

I just fitted these to my Outback and will fit them again to my GT when they KU31's on there need replacing.

Quiet and good grip wet and dry for daily driving.

+1 for Zetum.. i've run them on the rear of my track car..

good amount of grip and last for a while..

as far as cheap tires go, i couldnt really fault them..

the only issue i've heard (a mate had them on his evo) is the sidewalls were a little soft... i didnt have the problem on my car coz i had a 235 stretched onto a 10" rim..

Pity you are in wa. There are cheap ones on eBay like ku31 but shipping will get you.

I have no idea about the tyres mentioned (although will keep the zentums in mind for future)

However, for the price, you cant go past ku31's on ebay. The ku31's by st George tyres online are 126 each.

Freight to Wa is 180 for four. So 45 each.

That works out to 171 each, slightly more than the zentum tyre referred to above.

for $190 a corner fitted i bought the Hankook Ventus V12 K110
really nice tyre so far comparable to the OEM RE050a's. and a proper respected brand.
