18x8.5" +30!!!

So, I know I could just try and find some wheels that fit... but found some BBS wheels in 18x8.5" with an offset of +30 and a little curious. What's required to get them to fit without a stretched tyre?

I've got the standard billies+pink springs which I plan on keeping, if I got coilovers I wouldn't go any lower. I think the current wheels are +55 which means these will only sit 38mm out from the current wheels which doesn't seem too bad given how bad the current stance is.... Would I get away with minor guard work, ie roll and very slight flare, or need to run stretched tyres and add camber?

225 rubber is slight stretch on an 8.5" rim (will leave the rim exposed to potential easy gutter rash), 245 is perfectly straight, but there's no way 245 will go on without flaring.

My +44 offset 8.5" rims have loads of clearance on the inside, even with stock suspension (stock camber, stock height) - it's the outside clearance that's the bigger issue. +30 is only a 1.4cm difference to mine so I can't imagine it being any real drama.

I'm running 8.5's with +44 on S-Techs, not even close to any sort of guard rubbing. I'm running 225's though, I remember reading somewhere that 245 is defect in SA? Also, +30 offset will also be defect ( not really all that obvious to a cop, but if shit hits the fan and insurance get's involved it might be a different story)

Due to the higher profile I chose to go with (45 instead of 40 for my 18"s), I did have some very SLIGHT rubbing on the rear guard only when going over yumps at speed (where the back end squats on the landing). I rolled my rears and have had no problems since.

As for defects, most states usually adhere to the general ADR of no higher than 1 level up on wheel size and width, ie: if factory size is 17", then nothing larger than 18" is legal. If factory width is 215 then nothing larger than 225 is legal, etc.

i got 18x8.5 +47 and no rolling needed. and im using billies + eibach springs, my billies got camber adjustment so i just maxed out the camber + on 225. think it looks perfect with 225 with a bit of strech, wouldnt mind going 215 but see how we go

Yeah I'll still have to look into what's legal and all that. I know in SA I can go 2" bigger in diameter and 1" wider on the rim legally, not sure about changing the track and tyre width though.

I want a nice wide stance, with beefy tyres (none of this hellaflush stuff). The 215s on 7.5" are pretty pathetic IMO. May have to go 8" if I can't legally get a tyre big enough for the 8.5". Sounds like the +30 won't be too much of a problem though if I roll the guards and a bit of minor fender work.

Well, 8.5" IMO is already a very beefy look (especially if you marry it with an appropriately aggressive looking tyre), but if you want to be completely legal, then that'll mean going no wider than 8" (from 7" factory wheels that is - tbSTi has 7.5" factory wheels) to ensure that it absolutely fits under the factory guards. The 8" width can look pretty aggressive too, but does get closer to the "hellaflush" look you don't want.

Found this, to me this is perfect. Great height, wide wheels, lots of tyre. Very aggresive looking from just the wheels and not a stupid amount of camber



I think his wheels are wider than 8.5" by the looks of it but that's the stance I'm aiming for.

From what I can see in the shadow on the rear, that looks about 9" to me with rubber probably no less than 235 wide. There appears to be a small amount of stretch on the sidewalls.

Have you had a look at the Tyres and Wheels thread for some other examples?

Those RPF1 are 18x9.5 +35

You can make them fit if you stretch tyres and camber if your car is low. It'll be tough to run a wide tyre (255) or something of that sort without excessive guard work or keeping yoru car at stock height, but doing that would leave your car looking a bit.. Strange.

I have 19x8.5 +35 with 235/35/19 and they fit with no modification.
Running Tein s-techs.
If I went lower at the front Id be coming close to rubbing.

I'd say with the extra 5mm difference in offset you will possibly want to roll guards.

Regardless it is probably illegal if you really care about that.

Not sure about your state but others say no more than 25mm increase in track, which only allows 12.5 mm less offset.
However I'd be surprised if I got pulled over and they measured my track against factory spec.

[EDIT] Due to my retardo rim measurement skills I now find out I actually have 7.5 +45 with 235s.

I would recommend lowering but some people don't seem to mind.
Personally im not 100% happy with mine even with the s-techs as I'd like a little less gap in the front.
But mine are 19s so I think the gap is more noticeable than it would be with 18s.

No pics right now but I'll get a couple crappy phone ones tomorrow.
