I got my wife's car serviced last Friday and was informed that the rear brake pads have less than 1000kms left and rotors need machining. And fronts have about 5000 left.
I was wondering roughly how much gt brakes go for and how hard it is to change. As dba4000 series rotors are not cheap enough to swap straight to unless the gt conversion is very expensive.

Conversion is easy. Remove wheel, remove caliper, disconnect brake line from caliper or car, remove disc. Then put on new rotor, attach new brake line to caliper or car, attach new caliper, bleed brakes until no air is left, put wheel back on. All you need is a basic socket and spanner set. A rubber mallet also helps for undoing the caliper bolts if they're a bit stiff.

Not sure what the cost of GT brakes are as I'm currently doing a Brembo conversion myself however I did a WRX brake conversion on my brothers Impreza RS and it only cost $500 for four calipers and OEM discs included plus $20 in brake fluid. The rest is just your time to do the work.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure if it was a straight bolt on or wether I had to make adaptors to fit.

Well, my rear Brembo's need an adapter to bolt on, but the OEM's should be a straight swap.

Direct swap.

"BUT" if its just the wifes grocery hauler its cheaper to put new pads and rotors in than buy GTB brakes (if you can find some, hot property atm).

You dont need anything fancy...... Unless you want to.

I would check the pads yourself, Subaru told me my pads had less than 1000 Kms and needed replacing urgently and rotors need skimming. I checked myself and found 6mm left on the pads!

Called them up and long story short they sent me out a $100 voucher for my next service.

6mm is a massive amount to be told 1000kms left.......

Yeh considering I've driven 6000kms since and still have a few mm left. The dealership manager was apparently furious at the head mechanic for making it up. Ah well, just reminds me why I dislike leaving my car with Subaru

My mechanic is a really good family friend he done his apprenticeship with my father 25 years ago.

Thanks for the advice I thought the gt brakes would be easy to get as it seams like everyone wants to or is doing brembo conversions.

Check out your local wreckers, Gumtree and eBay - anyone who has a GT for wrecking will sell you a set - you don't have to wait for someone to do a Brembo conversion and sell off their OEM's.

I recently bought the leather interior from a silver MY06 GT sedan from a wrecker in Cabramatta called General Japanese Spares. Give them a ring and see how much they'd be prepared to sell the calipers and discs to you. Also check just up the road from them at Just Japanese Auto Parts.

I am taking my rear GT calipers and rotors off the car in a week or 3 to fit my rear brembos

To give you an idea, a GT brake conversion is what I just did. Brakes & rotors from a wrecker were $150 (front & back), cheap as chips!! I know someone who was able to fully refurbish them & paint them, supply Bendix pads & machine rotors.. I went and bought some epoxy enamel black paint, clear heatproof paint & some wet & dry to get them how I like them. Gold decals from the UK were about $7 and wallah, my uncle & I spent about 3.5-4 hours one morning installing

Faaaark, I'll buy them for that right now. Put them on Ozfoz for $500 for the set and they will be sold in 5 minutes....

they are going to Mat04 for what I consider a fair price.
