Mixing springs sets?

Has anyone here run a different set of springs, say in the front struts, to those in the rear?
example 1: Person "A" got King Springs, but the rears were too high for some reason. Could they just run the OE springs at the rear, assuming they were happy with the OE height?
example 2: Person "B" has a wagon, thanks to sagginess the rear is plenty low, could e.g. Sti or S-Techs be run only in the front struts to even up the overall stance?

Was considering running STI pinks on my rear and s techs on the front. If you have springs with a fairly even spring rate and height it should be alright but I wouldn't go kings on the front and stock KYB/billie springs on the rear.

I'm keen to see some hate come out over this one :p.

I don't think you'll get 'hate' out of this one.. Bogans run ultra lows with super lows in their VT Commodores all the time - in saying that, I guess they are from the same manufacturer. I was considering getting some super lows for the front of mine, but I prefer to keep the same manufacturer so ended up staying with how I have it

Bro I run ultra low kings on tha back of my vs wags and normal kingys at the front. Sits hell sick ey and they R a great performance upgrade, almost on par with a Rexxy handling. : )

When i bought my gen2 legacy it had STi Black springs in the front and King Lows in the rear.
it made the car sit level (door sill parallel to the road)

but the kings were harsh and i wanted the car to have the same gaps between the tyres and wheel-arches, so some matching STi springs for the back and strut-spacers gave the lift i wanted.

Ideally i would like the same from my 3RB
while the dorr sills are parallel with the road, it always "looks like it's sitting down in the back end a little.

also a lot of the early lib owners used to run WRX SPec king super-lows in the front and king lows in the rear to make the heavier lib sit level.
this was before there was an abundance of spring choices

I've got a garage full of springs and others abandoned at various workshops after lots of mixing and matching.

That was far more about rates than heights though.

Thanks for the feedback - it would seem that spring rates to suit each end/height/spring combo is the key if considering this.

You twits calling out kings springs. When a big part of targa tas, dutton, sprints and even the odd v8sc use kings springs.

+1: Intriguingly, King springs were recommended as a stage one budget upgrade in an HPI article I dug up about GTR suspension tuning.
The main exception being getting the right height...
I'm aware springs can't/shouldn't be cut down but are there any other options for shortening their height?

So... anyone mixed spring sets, e.g. one brand to the front, another at the rear, regardless of brand - successfully?

I dont see it being any sort of problem.

It wont matter the brand if you can get the ride height your after with a suitable spring rate.

You "can" get springs reset. Ive had this done to a set of Kings years ago to get the exact height I was after. They clamp the spring, say 15mm compressed if you want to drop it 15mm then heat it in a furnace. Cool it down, repaint the coil and its set 15mm lower.

Im not sure about how this would affect the spring rate though but I didnt notice any difference in the car they were fitted to.
