If your happy with getting around 30,000ks with reasonably hard driving,i havnt found a better tyre in the wet yet bridgestone S03s,you can find em for round $375 a corner for 225\40\18s and about $280 for 215\45\17 these days.

Have a look at the RE50A's these are the stock tyres that have been used on the MY06, unsure what is being used on the MY07. The good thing about these, your dealership should be able to do you a pretty good deal on them.
Let us know how you go.
If anyone in BrisVegas knows how to get hold of Bob, he may be able to hook you up with a deal up there as I know he was trying to get membersx from the old site Club discounts.

Adam,
P-Zero Nero are $410per corner. I don't know what your been smoking, but i want some..

Who quoted you $800per corner?

P.S Nice to meet you today...

Gino,

This was a price I was quoted back in Jan prior to me getting my hands on the STi, so either the price may have fallen. At the time of release the tyres were only brand new in Australia, hence the inflated buy price. If they are only 410 a corner, I totally wont be changing. Thanks for the info. I will have to talk to my tyre mates at Box Hill to ensure they have a set on standby when I need them.

Nice to meet you also today mate, been a long time in the making. Its actually the 2nd time that I have met yr SpecB though......

Take care and make sure you make it more of a habit to turn up to the WRX Days....

Hey Glen,
nice to see you made it mate. You will have to PM me yr number when u get a chance so we can catch up and compare notes.

As per my above post, the 800 PC was quoted prior to the STi landing. The tyres were pretty new, hence the price hike.

does anyone know if a 235/45R17 will fit the standard 17" wheel instead of the 215's on there at the moment?

I think your 17" wheels are 7.5" wide.

Most tyre selectors show the range if widths they will fit on.
e.g. http://www.yokohama.com.au/ourtyres/siz ... es100.aspx

says that 235/45R17 97W will fit on 7.5" to 9" rims.

I have to ask a really dumb question. Aside from the asthetic appeal of having wider rubber what is the point of replacing the 215 factory tyres with something wider? Is it as simple as more rubber on the ground = more grip? Are there any downsides to it? I would consider going up to 225 just because it looks better but I'd like to have deeper understanding of the pros and cons.

Well it certainly looks better, also increases your footprint on the road but more importantly for me, opens up different tyre choices. The only thing to be aware of is the overall tyre diameter, a 225-45-17 has a different diameter to a 215-45-17. There are numerous tyre calculatorson the net that will give you the size difference, or most tyre joints can sort it out. From memory, a 235-40-17 is close to the same rolling diam as the stock 215-45-17.

Like MIB said, I wanted to know mainly because there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice when it comes to 215's. I've never had any major issues with lack of traction with the stock Bridgestones 215/45R17's

Has anyone run the Potenza GIII, Re050(has less features than the GIII) or S03 (more features than the GIII) , I’ve had the GIII on the car since I got it, and I think they are ok or am I missing out?

i ended up getting the hankooks.... 235-35-19's. and yeah.... well thats all i can say about them...

far from brilliant, as they dont stick that well up front when hooking into round-abouts..and yeah put em under cornering pressure, and ive now decided that hooking around corners arent going to happen... other than that, for 260 a corner, i guess i got what i paid for..

it became too difficult to find a tyre that would fit with the approved load rating or whatever.. and i was too impatient to piss fart around dealing with idiots that tried selling me some sweatshop brand.

and after arguing with the salesman, who decided that he would and tell me i should get 18's instead of 19's. i told him what i really thought of him and went elsewhere.

eventually, i got quotes on about 3 different tyres, the hankook, the falken, and the toyo that burgs was telling me about.

i didnt end up finding out much ab0ut the toyo, no one seemed to like it... no idea.. the falken apparently didnt have that load rating i needed...

ahhh, another lesson learnt
