Cant figure this out and not sure if it poses a problem later on..

The paint on the rotors are bubbling up..

They are the DBA Cross Drilled and Slotted rotors. Approximately 10K of normal usage.

Problem is only occurring on the rears. Fronts are perfectly fine.

No brake fluid leakage, no track driving, running TRW or TWR brake pads.

Any suggestions? I would imagine the paint to be kinda heat resistant to at least 850 degrees?

Not driving with the handbrake on?

It does look like its bubbled due to heat, but the fronts generate more heat than the rears.

Hey pal,

Nope, not driving with HB up. I have a habit of always checking. I cant seem to figure it out too.. Like you said, the fronts should generate more heat..

Made a call to DBA Australia and spoke to their technical support team.

They have offered to send a courier to come pick them up and bring it back to their warehouse (Somewhere in NSW) and repaint them and send them back.

Fairly good service i say.

But am still keen to know whats happening and why its doing that.. They suggested that it could be the solvent used when installed by the workshop. But i highly doubt that as they will destroyed the front rotors also, not just the back.

Due to the colour it looks like it's burning due to heat. Check the caliper slide boots whilst the calipers are off and regrease them.

Checked the rear calipers and both are functioning well.. I will regrease them as recommended. Still cant understand why only the rears..

Make sure you use the specific type of grease, either Niglube RX2 (impossible to buy except as part of rebuild seals kit) or any lithium soap base glycol grease. The wrong grease (most types) will cause the rubber slider pin bush and boots to swell and seize up the slider pins.

I searched high and low and found the only place in Australia to buy is from Lexus it's called "Rubber G Grease" and part of a service recall campaign. About $20 for a huge tube enough to do a hundred cars.

Do you know the cause of the bubbling paint?

Do you use a degreaser when washing your wheels? Ive seen similar but not as bad as yours due to the heavy degreaser staying on too long and eating away the paint on the rotor hat.

Will be interesting to hear what DBA say.

Possibly just a bad batch of rotors? Or bad batch of paint used to paint them.

Morning mate, no, I dont use any alloy wheel cleaners as I have had experiences with them taking paint off the wheels..

DBA didnt claim fault but were really helpful in terms of offering a re-paint service FOC.

Looking at the rotors this morning, it seems to be getting from bad to worse.

I am hoping that is the case.. I would have assumed the paint to be heat resistant to a fairly high temp..

I am 99% sure that the paint is failing due to excessive heat because the handbrake is dragging. When you fitted the new rotors did you adjust the handbrake as per the Sub service manual?

I agree, the paint is definitely burnt, when you take the disc off check the condition of the hand brake shoes, they would be show signs of heavy wear.

Hi Bryce,

To be frank, I am not sure... This serviced by Hoppers Stoppers in Hoppers Crossing.
I would imagine they have as they are pretty professional.
