I know the tyre purists are going to disaprove putting a 235/40 on a 7.5" rim but it seems to sit nicely to me.

The 235s fill the guards so much better,

Bridgestone are having a sale and I couldn't go past $325- fitted for RE 050As.
For SA members, I'd highly recommend seeing Shaun at Bridgestone Select in Gouger St Adelaide as he was extremely helpful and has personal experience with the libs running STi rims.

How do they feel though, does the sidewall flex in hard corners?

I've only just driven home from the tyre shop but having had the OEM RE 050A 215/45 for the past 32 000km and found them to turn in well, be predictable and quiet to the end
I was very pleased to stay with the RE 050A especially at this price!
Hamish, I couldn't speak highly enough of Shaun down there, worth a visit.

Hmm ... suppose Bridgestone did install it for you so they might be liable...
The main concern I will have at wearing 235/40R18 on 7.5" wheel is that they are outside of manufacturer's approved range. From
Bridgestone.com:
235/40ZR18 91Y) (Y) BL 061209 8.0-9.5 25.5 10 25
235/40ZR18 91Y) (Y) BL 127713 8.0-9.5 25.4 10 24
While they may be okay, but if you happened to cause an accident and attempt to claim insurance, they may point to the out of spec tyres and reject your claim.

You were lucky to get RE050As at that price, and they look okay to me.

235/40 R18 may not be approved by Bridgestone for a 7.5" rim, but the 235/45 R18 is. Given that the standard tyre diameter is 25.7 (for 215/45 R18) and the speedometer seems to be out by about -10% (on by MY07 Liberty anyway) and a 235/45 R18 has a diameter of 26.4 there is only +2.7% difference and it would bring the speedo closer to accurate I would think, whereas a 235/40 R18 has a diameter of 25.5 (i.e a smaller diameter than standard) so it would make the discrepancy (very marginally) worse.
I don't actually know if a 235/45 R18 will fit properly under the guards (I am still on the tyres originally supplied with the car) but if I could fit 235/45 on a 7.5" rim I would.
I agree though, the 235/40 R18's look good.

That’s are great price for the those tyres…..I remember when shopping around last time for tyres I found generally most brands that 225/40r18 were are little more expensive than the 235/40r18, but for $325 fitted that price is great that that tyre.
Have you checked the manufacture date?

You're right Tony, the tyres are about a year old but I could hardly complain at the price.
I really wanted 225/45 but this seems no longer available in RE 050A and I could have had this size in S001 but at another $100 per tyre.
I've really loved the RE 050As and at the price I thought it worth the risk.
I also noted a 245/40/18 minimum recommended rim is 8" just like the 235/40.

No issue with the age, are year is ok..... anything over 2 years would be are worry
Still are great price for are great tyre, might try my local Bridgestone centre to see if they have the same deal.

I want to put the same size on my wheels. But I'm looking at a Michelin pilot sport 2 or 3 cause I hate how loud the 050s are.
I rang jax for a quote on 4x235/40r18 he asked what car I said a liberty STI he said they have a 7in rim and he won't fit a 235 on it. I said its a 7.5in rim and guys on the forum have fit this size to the rim. He said he won't do it cause it will void warranty..
I got a quote from Tempe tyres for the pilot sport 2's for $300 and pilot sport 3s for $265. Anyone running these?
Not sure which ones to go for I just want a quiet tyre!! Sick of the loud road noise especially driving up the f3!!
How do you find the ride now ozsti with the wider tyre?

The ride is better with this tyre compared to the 215/45 OEM RE050As I had previously which is consistent with what the tyre companies say. On the flip side, I'm sure there is also a slight cornering performance compromise too unfortunately.
But they look hot and were a good price!
Yes the STi rim is 7.5" wide and technically the 235/40 is too wide for it but have a look at the pics, the RE050A seems to fit nicely and has an exceptionally deep rim protector.
One of the reasons I wanted the RE050A was that my previous ones remained quiet to the end. (34,000km)

Sounds good.
Is your STI standard height? Do you get and rubbing issues front or rear?

My car is a Spec B with STi pink springs.
No rubbing anywhere.
I was concerned about the inner-side of the fronts and spring base, but there's no evidence of rubbing.
