225/40/18 vs 215/45/18 - anyone running 45 profile tyres

Hey guy/gals,

I thinking of going 45 profile tyres.

Current rims are 45 offset.

Can I get a 215 or 225(?) 45 profile under there, anyone already running this?

Guards have been rolled too.

215/45/18 is the oem size for the Liberty 18" wheels. So obviously there will be no fitment issues.

Then Gen5's now run 225/45/18's. You will easily get the same under the Gen4.

Kinda sad though, was hoping to have to get some new rims, advan f7s or prodrives.....
An excuse would have been nice!!

Curious why the change to 45 series?

As for issues...I doubt any, but be weary of rear camber and rubbing on the inside edge of the wheel well. Check range of movement with the bottom shock bolt out and the tyre fitted. Last thing you want is a high speed full bound tyre blowout...ask me how I know.

If it's for cheap tyres, 235/40 is fairly common and fits perfectly fine on an 8 or 8.5 rim with a lip roll on the rear. As much as I hate the idea of rolling guards it can be done well with patience and not a 19 year old at the tyre shop doing it.

I went for 45 series instead of 40 because it makes the speedo much closer to correct, and also raises the effective gearing slightly.

thinking of going 45 as roads in WA suck and little, sharp bumps etc are annoying with 40 profile tyres.

Hmm will start looking at tyre options.
