I'm looking at upgrading my springs on my MY05 3.0RB sedan from the stock ones for the usual reasons - springs not very progressive, ride too harsh considering the car doesn't handle like a go cart, car not as settled as I would like when cornering over bumps and when braking etc. I'm no expert but I really think Subaru/Bilstein didn't spend enough fine tuning the suspension.

My car is a low km one (45,XXX so I think the shocks are still in good condition.

I'm not that worried about the lowering aspect although a small drop is welcome for appearance reasons. I just want the car to handle and ride a lot better that stock whilst still being compliant (i.e. "BMW type suspension" as someone remarked in a previous suspension related thread) without going to the extreme of coilovers.

I've had the car for a year now and whilst I've been considering getting different springs for a while my most recent weekend drive with the car gave me the shits and I finally want do do something about it as enough is enough.

I've searched though past threads but am wondering if anyone has tried both of these on their 3.0RB and has an informed opinion on what is best. I've read that Kings and the like are crap so won't be looking at them.

*Are the Tein S Techs stiffer than the Eibachs?
*Is the ride of both of these superior to the stock suspension? If a change to either of these springs makes it worse then I'm not sure what I will do...
*I think it has been said the Teins have slightly greater drop in height over the Eibachs. Is this correct?

*I know I can get the Tiens from Phat, and that the ones he has are optimised for the Libs. In regard to the Eibachs is it the Eibach Pro that most guys are using for the 3.0RB?

**I will also be getting updated roll bars (probably Cuscos from phat) front and rear so I know what to get in that department.

Yes the s techs are 10 mm lower, I have them on my GT and love them. Firm like a stock wrx but still very comfy when crusing. I wish the rear was 5-10 mm higher as it looks like I have a body in my boot but that's life.

I think you need to look at shock absorbers as well. I have had my 06 3RB since new, and in my opinion, the front shock absorbers have always been too soft.

At least the Bilsteins are rebuildable. Maybe once I get the springs I'll see what it is like afterward.

JDM Billies are firmer than AUSDM ones.

Im running JDM Billies now with stock springs and theyre great.

Can be had cheap, low kay, s/h from Import Monster.

The more I think about it I reckon my shocks may be on the way out. I wonder what Heasmans charges for a rebuild these days. I'll have to give them a call.

Even so, if anyone's had direct experience with both springs as per the topic, and feedback would be great.

How many km have you done? My car has done about 93000km and I think mine aren't the best either.

Shocks in my 3rb were fine at 140k when I took them out. Seriously doubt they'd had a rebuild or even been considered in 5 years by previous owner. The rubber top hats were fubar though...check that, & control arm bushes before going silly on replacements, might be something cheap and easy??..

I was going to mention that when driving slowly on say a road such as my driveway which has "joints" between segments of concrete, I usually can hear a subtle jiggling or knocking suspension noise, probably more from the back. Maybe it is the rubber top hats, or suspension bushes or roll bar bushes etc.

Problem is if you take it to someone to diagnose it they invariably say that X + Y + Z etc etc needs replacing. So for example my shocks could be OK but something like bushes could need replacing, but they'll say that both items require replacing.

Just out of interest, just say if my shocks did need replacing, will the Wheelpower ones (if they have any left) from the 2.5 GTBs fit the 3.0RB or are they not suitable due to the 3.0's extra front weight? Or is it the springs that you have to be specific with in regard to the 3.0 application?

I've been reading through past posts more thoroughly and I'm leaning towards the Eibachs at this stage due to people mentioning they have a very good ride without too much drop.

Have you considered Swift Springs?
