WRX 4pot/2pot btrake upgrades?

Postby tangcla » Mon Oct 15, 2007 1:01 pm

Has anyone used the WRX 4-pot front and 2-pot rear calipers on the gen4 yet? Will they work with the stock rotors, and what's involved in fitting them?

And most importantly, is there much improvement to stopping power?

I researched this a while ago, general findings were that it would be a step backwards from the std GT brakes...

Yes, really -really. This was some time ago so i've kinda forgotten what the reasons were but it was along the lines of the GT brakes haveing more clamping force over a larger surface area compared to the std wrx ones.

Do a search here and on legacygt.com forums, you'll find the data.

Even if it's just a caliper upgrade and using the standard 316mm rotors... is it still bad?

Are you doing it for looks?

Why would you replace the std GT calipers which were designed to work on the std GT disks with the WRX ones that were designed to work with the smaller disk?

Still comes down to surface (contact) area and force. The std GT calipers and disks have more of both compared to WRX calipers and std GT disks.

No probs.

Btw, a worthwhile update to the std brakes would be better pads, slotted disks, better brake fluid, braided brake lines and maybe a brake cylinder brace.
