Is there a stock tyre size list and what brands they come with?

I'm trying to find out what tyres and profile the stock tyres are for the liberty gt spec b (08'). I'm finding conflicting info and need help with clarification.

Thanks,

Brian

Forgot about the placard.... Seems that every wheel place wants to sell me 225/40/R18.

Do you think it would be okay still or will the speedo be out too much?

They'll be fine. The standard liberty speedo is way out from factory (around 9%) so it should reduce how far the speedo is out.

the speedo will read even higher than it currently does. 215/45R18 is a lot less common than 225/40R18 so you will have less options in the stock size. The other size is more common and probably why people are trying to sell you that. It won't cause you problems as long as the load and speed ratings match or exceed the stock tyres

I'm about to replace tyres and am keen to get 225/45/18 as it will go some way to reducing the speedo error.

I'm running the 7.5" STi rims. I would have thought 225/40 would be a bit wide for the std 7" rim as well.

My bad :D

But yeah being a more common size prob means you can get a better price on them too

The 08 tb sti came standard with the 225/40, Speedo was about 5km/h out….not are great deal.

I currently running 235/40 on a 8' 07 tb sti wheel and noticed my Speedo is almost on par with my a few different sat nav's

When shopping around last time for tyres I found most brands in the 215 or 225 cost more then 235 or 245, type and size were exactly the same.

I agree the 235/40/18 would be almost ideal but are too wide for my 7.5" rim and I reckon would rub on the spring base on the fronts. Your 8" STi wheels are +48 offset aren't they so you wouldn't have this issue.

I wonder if Subaru reduced the speedo error in the '08s or are there individual variations?

Michael your right, I forgot to add they are the +48 offset,

You might be able to run 235 pending on tyre make, of course you need a good tyre guy that would be willing to fit multiple tyres and test fit them.

I was a little surprised to hear there is a large difference in tyre widths from different manufactures for the 235…..

My next attempt might be 245, but I know the guards will need to be rolled, pumped, and bitch slapped into shape.

I know the 08 tb sti was fitted with some sort of ratio speed sensor to compensate for the sti wheels.

Hey Oz, did you end up going with the 235? or going for another tyre size?

Haven't done it yet, but am sure I'll go with the 225/45/18 option on my STi rims. My stock tyres have 28,000km and are still going strong - I need to wear them out!

I was keen to find out about 5mm spacers but it may be once I have the slightly wider tyre I'll be happy with the appearance. I'm still concerned how close the standard 215/45 sits to the spring base up front, hence the other reason I was keen to get feedback on hub-centric spacers. I have a bit of negative camber dialled in that may contribute to this.

Now I'm settled on the size, a more important decision is the brand.

On my list so far are the Yokohama S drive and Bridgestone RE001.

Trouble is where ever you go they are biased to what ever tyre company they have an exclusive type deal with and it's hard to get true independent advice. Plus you need to go somewhere they are careful with your rims and good with balancing.

I value anyone's input.

I would also like info. Does anyone know whether it's ok to run 235/40/18 tyres on the stock gt spec b wheels?

check the tyre manufacturer's information for the particular tyre you are using

e.g. Michelin Oz's website shows for both the PS2 and PS3 a minimum width of 8", recommended 8.5" and max 9.5" for 235/40R18

The other major manufacturer's websites aren't anywhere near as helpful so you might have to call the national distributors for a better idea
