G'day all. I am interested to know if anyone has encountered (and ovecome!?) this problem.

My MY04 Liberty GT sits level on front low King springs and rear heavy duty stock height King springs. There is a rear Whiteline 20mm adjustable swaybar.

I heard a knock from the rear recently and my local suspension shop tells me that the swaybar is knocking against the fuel tank. This sounds a tad alarming to me. Apparently, if the car rode 1 inch higher, there would be clearance between the swaybar and tank. We are trying to find a swaybar with a different curve which does not produce this problem.

The bar should not hit your fuel tank unless it's shifting sideways.

Michael i think you need to find a new suspension shop because the fuel tank is almost 1m away from the rear sway bar so the chance of the bar hitting the tank is zero..i think the spare tyre well is what it my be hitting if thats even the problem

OK. Thanks for the advice. I'll post any interesting developments...

Just an update:

PHAT, the swaybar is rubbing on the left side of the spare wheel well.
teK, the left lateral lock is at least an inch away from the D bush

Both spot on!

I contacted Whiteline customer support after my last post and they have been excellent. Responses were within 1 business day (if not same day) and they are very keen to supply whatever parts are necessary to fix the problem, even though my swaybar is at least 12months old! The result: I am off to a different shop on Wednesday for installation of new lateral locks which have been supplied free-of-charge. I will also get the swaybar model number checked too.

The whiteline locks by design aren't that willing to stay in position. You may need to crimp them down really hard after ensuring the bar is spotlesslyclean, or use straps similar to mine.
