Coilovers, what to buy?

Postby Hobba » Thu Oct 14, 2010 8:15 pm

Hi guys, looking at getting coilovers for my car just wanting to know what you guys recommend, obviously everyone is going to say the Teins, but I don't really want to fork out that much?? I've got quotes for Teins, Ksport, BC Racing and Pedders so far and they are all around the same price, apart from the Teins. So yeah if anyone has any thoughts i'd love to hear them. Thanks

Although most will say go Tein's, and 'you pay what you get for'. I say if you're only looking for adjustability of ride height. The cheaper coilovers will suffice. Of the brands you've listed, I recommend BC racings. But make sure they're the BC BR's (gold and black) not the earlier models (red and black). They're pretty comfortable if you adjust your dampening right. I've had them on my car for about 6 months now and no complaints so far.

That said, if you want a trusted brand, from what I've read on here Tein's are easily the best option. I have no first hand experience with Tein's on our cars so I can't really comment but a lot of the aussie lib guys swear by them and tein s-techs. Although in the US it's the complete opposite, maybe their roads are worse or something who knows.

But yeah, my 2cents.

Which cuscos Shane? I've been looking at getting a set of the comp-s to match it all up with the other suspension mods I'll be doing (all of which will be cusco) if the ride is too harsh the minister if finance will string me up.

I've got HSD HR Coilovers on the way... from what I'm told, mine are the first set in Australia for the Liberty's, but from previous experience with other cars, they are a top quality coilover!
Work out around the same sort of $$s as the BC's I think? about $1600 for the 32-step adjustable's with adjustable camber top hat's as well! :)

I heard good things about them too Jimmy, but I think they're priced slightly higher than the BC's which can be had for $1200ish.

They do do a cheaper model HS? Which doesn't include the camber adjustable top hats which is around $1200 I think?

Personally wouldn't get coilovers without camber adjustment, so I went for the "Race" HR's :)

Hey mate,

A friend here in Perth imports them, so I get them from him, but you should be able to contact the suppliers directly and order from them(seeing as you are over east!)

http://www.otomoto.com.au/HDSystems/

You'll need to email them for specs and details though, as they don't have the Liberty listed on the site yet! I will hopefully be able to confirm good fitment in the next couple of weeks when mine roll up! :)

Hi Jimmy,

I am hell interested in how you go with these, have been considering them for mine.
A full cusco brace, swaybar, endlinks and the HR coilovers may be what I go with... we'll see how you go Jimmy.

No worries guys! I got an email this morning saying that mine are on a truck on their way over to Perth from the eastern states.

HSD have a recommended setup for Liberty's in their TT range, but they did not have the struts available at the time I was ordering(not sure if they are available now?) so I went with the HR struts and the same spring rate springs as they recommended with the other setup(not sure exactly what they are sorry).
I'm pretty sure they will do just about any spring rate, so you should be able to request whatever you prefer.

I will hopefully be able to put them in next weekend and will let you guys know my thoughts when I do! :)
