Well...was an awesoome day..great weather. There were more WRX's then you could poke a stick at but at least there was one other Liberty.

First half of the day was dedicated to driver training. Trying to do handbrake turns in these tyres were hard as they are as grippy as all hell . For the 2nd half the track was opened up and I really gave the old girl some. Was overtakinga few cars including an MY08 STi WRX LOL who came off the track. Was trying my all to pass an EVO IV but just could not change the distance between us. It turns out after we get into pits this thing has got a roll cage...proper bucket seats...was some fully modded Dutton car ...kind of made me feel better after seeing this beast. I'm not sure what I was getting for lap times though the EVO and I position did not change after 4 laps and he said he was getting around 1:13~1:14?

Was a great day overall though...and I got the racetrack out of my system for a while

I switched from the RE050 to Pirelli P Zero Rosso's (got them for 300 corner for RB size)...

Couple of observations:
Pirelli's better in the wet than the RE's yet in the dry they seem down on mid corner grip. Ride is a little bit better, soaks up the sharp bumps a bit more and there is less tyre noise (compared to worn RE's)

I'd suggest either as a replacement, if you want better mileage go for Adrenalin's or something a bit harder.

I went looking at 18'x 215 45 today... All I can say is OMG expensive.
Kinda wondering whether to just get 225 for the price drop.

I think going the 225 is pretty common given some of the silly prices for the 215s. I'd suspect the main performance difference with the 215s on the SpecB rims would be a little wandering/softness when cornering due to the wider profile of the tyre and consequential extra tyre wall.

A bloke down the road from me has some 225s on his Blitzen. Looks ok.

If anyone has experience with changing to a 225/40/18, let us know.

My 215/45/18's were only 300 corner for Pirelli P Zero. Nothing OMG about that for what they are. 225/40 will be smaller overall diameter than the 215/45. I'd go 225/45 which would bring your speedo back to correct...

These are what are on the wheels I bought off Arith. Although there might not be any OMG about them I can't fault them. Sticky enough, quiet and appear to be well wearing. Did a 3,000k trip and they were put to the test in varying situations wet, dry, shite roadworks etc.

The speedo is connected to your gearbox output, it's just counting revolutions.
If you put a bigger than standard tyre on, then you are going further for the same number of revolutions, so faster than normal. That means your speedo will read low.

Okay, so at the moment I am running stock wheels and tyres (17s) so if I was to go to 20s or 19s, that means my speedo is going to be off? Depending what tyre it is? What tyre size/dimension would you recommend for 19s and 20s?

Ok, but if my stock tyre size of 215/45/18 reads 100kmh when I'm actually doing 94kmh, going up to a 225/45/18 would probably put it spot on.... Any bigger than that and it would then read lower than I was actually traveling.

Regardless, if you go bigger overall tyre diameter, you can get a little interuptor for the speedo that corrects it, we use them on motorbikes if you change the sprockets (which results in a gearing change putting the speedo way out)

There are guys here with 19's and 20's that will chime in with tyre sizing I'm sure.

Edit: This made it even more confusing so I'll try to clarify.
I have the factory sized 215/45/18 tyres. At 100kmh on my speedo, GPS says my actual speed is 94kmh, that means my speedo is essentially 6% fast.

If I was to go to a 225/40 tyre, it is 2.1% SMALLER than the stock which would mean 92 actual speed when speedo shows 100.

225/45 is 1.5% BIGGER than stock which means real speed is 96 when speedo shows 100.

Make more sense?

With the 215/45/18's on, cruise set via the gps the speedo reads within a k of correct. Having these tyres on has improved the reading (for me/my car). Mine is an 04GT so the stockers are the ol 17's if that makes a difference.
