I'm willing to bet gtspec's rotors are not warped.

If they are warped, they won't get better by themselves and will need to be machined as swingn said.

If you drive normally on them for a few hundred km and the shudder is gone, then it was a deposit on the surface of the rotor.

And DS2500s, Motul DOT5.1 fluid, braided lines and master cylinder brace work quite well with standard rotors. It is the pads that are crap.

DS2500 is the pads i take it? sorry for the ignorance, not familiar with brakes.. and what they worth?

Yep, DS2500 are pads made by Ferodo. They are not cheap. I don't remember, but it could have been around $500 for a full set. Worth every cent and much better than similarly priced Pagids, Endless, etc.

Can you cut my hair?

gtspec wrote:yeh the shuttering went away thou after about 30mins of relaxed driving.. i thought it was permanent but i guess it unwarped itself lol but i guess it would come back when it gets nice n hot again like u said..

yeh im 100% wanting to upgrade but the amount of cash i have on the side is limited..

what you reckon are the most effective without breaking the budget..
pads and fluid?

Then they weren't warped.

Yep, pads and fluid are great bang for buck. Fluid is cheap (unless you're buying SRF) and that's something I change every six months. For less than $600 you'd make a greater improvement in your car than the strut brace and roll bars combined!

"coyote" = Can you cut my hair?

!

Which one ? (can't be many left to choose from :))

Yep Pads first - Fluid second (unless your fluid is old - then change it) Standard fill is DOT4 and not too bad - 5.1 better, although I prefer BelRay to Motul gear - personal preference

Rotors third

I used Porterfields in my TypeR, but I had to get new rotors - using it on the track with the stock pads stuffed the rotors, and even after a machining, they were shite and too thin after that. Porterfield perhaps a little exotic to whats needed but good nonetheless

What's better about the BelRay?

I just told Serge I wanted him to put DOT5.1 in. He asked "what kind" and I said "whatever you've got". Not very technical, but I suspect half come from the same factory and there'd be bugger all discernable difference at that level. The Motul is cheap and I don't keep it that long anyway.

My problem is not lack of hair, but that fact it is all going grey. What rinse do you recommend?

Sorry in advance, not trying to hijack this thread. But got a question relating the pads. Whats the opinion of EBC Greenstuff. Previously had that with slotted RDA rotors on 03 RX 2.5ltr Liberty. Worked well. Any comments please.

Stock pads and rotors are a bad combination - change any one of the two and it's better already.

Brake fluid - DOT4 is more than adequate, DOT5.1 is marginally better but unless you intend on tracking your car and changing your fluid more often, you'll find that even though it's a glycol-based fluid it will absorb moisture faster than DOT4.

Sorry disagree - changing rotors and keeping stock pads wont help from cooking the stock pads. Will only help if they are drilled or slotted and even then is marginal as it will clean the pad face and allow those gas emissions to escape (pads will still cook though)

Pads first!

Tony - Its just a personal preference as I said, I dont think one is neccessarily better (and as you pointed out - would be tough to tell anyway). I dont like Motuls mass-market attack on all workshops these days buying their business. Most companies when they go this way lose the boutique/specialty a bit (Meguiars another case in example). Its just a personal thing
In oils I had also had discussions where Motul now outsource their ester bases to many different companies and therefore not always the same.

That said I use Castrol oil in the Lib and they aren't boutique :D.

The bike is all BelRay tho' and I think that's where the faith came from. Motul oils in the bike never lasted (fuel contamination & poor clutch performance)

Oh and Auburn brown brings out my eyes

Yeah it was Crap in my Triumph. Told the shop to go back to Mobil at the next service and all was fine again

Back on topic, the upgrade I had done (with fluid flush to 5.1 - can't remember which brand) seems to be working well. Gave them a pretty good workout on the round trip to Melbourne and came up trumps. Now just have to see how long the parts last....

OK cool, thanks for that.

Just out of interest, has it made any difference at all?
