Thanks Surge - I thought strut top bearing at first, but popping the cap showed nothing out of order in the ball race. Is your rubber giving out around the edges - it looks like that a bit but it may just be shadow?
There's no grease escaping my strut tops but I guess Id better try cleaning and lubing the strut shaft, a-la "Bilstein Knock" temp remedy and see if that gives me anything.
My noise is getting steadily more noticeable and that matches with the rubber tearing worse but could also be the lower ball joint (under the hub) but I did not feel any play in that at all.
Starting to give me the shits!
