Found out today Costco doesn't have it. $270 per tyre for S001 fitted and balanced but have to buy 4.

Yeah, it's only at Bridgestone Select at present. Alternatively, my local tyre place can get them for $220 a corner - I'd use that as ammunition against whatever price Bridgestone Select try.

Rob can I ask why you want to run a 235 tyre on a 7.5" wheel? 225 would be more than adequate in my humble opinion, as the 235 sidewalls will be very floaty over a 7.5" wheel

I've run 235/45R17 on 7.5" rims before, and have been very happy with them.

235/45R17 on 7.5" rims is an incredibly common size combination (factory spec on Falcon XR6 and Commodore SV6 for years). So the tyres are stupid cheap (seriously, $150 a corner cheaper for a given tyre).

225/45R17 is a less common (and more expensive) size. That said, the wheels have 225s on them right now, and I'm happy with those too.

I went through all this on the Bora (the factory spec wheels on those were 225/45R17 on a 7.5" wide wheel), and I'm completely against the stupid stretch thing that many in the 'dub community seem to go for.

Keeping in mind that 215 is that standard width and that is not stretched. I am running the conti contact sport 5 r18 40 225, I find them quite good plus I got them for about $270 a corner

Useless fact: Commodore SV6 has been 18x8 245/45 since 2006 (VE introduction). Ford XR6 runs on 17x7.5 235/45

Just went from RE050A to Conti Sport Contact 5.. Conti's are a far superior tyre. Got mine in 225/40/18 fited and balanced for $250 a corner.

I realise 225 isn't stretched on a 7.5" rim. What I was suggesting though is that although I've been part of the "VW watercooled" scene, I'd rather run a wider tyre than a narrower one.

There may be plenty of manufacturers who specify 225/45R17 tyres (many European brands, Mazda, Honda), but it's not a common tyre size in Australia. The handling capabilities of Falcons and Commodores has little to do with 235 vs 225 tyre width selection.

215 is the standard width on a 7" wide wheel. And you can get a 225 tyre on a 7" rim without issue.
