sorry to do this, but...

how is he possibly gonna know what spring rate he's got it on?

not a chance that he will get it right by counting the number of turns he's moved the spring.

the only real way to work out what spring rate he's on is to get it corner blanaced, which is about $400 each time from what i've been told...

you can technically adjust the rates on a flex/monoflex by changing the where the spring stoppers are, relative to the top mount, but unless you're gonna do a corner balance, you can potentially upset the rates on the car.

yes, i know he's said that he's not doing trackwork. but the track doesn't have random portholes mid corner or a piece of wiring which will be just enough to unsettle the car (think ripple strips on track). i've had my car feel more unsettled on the road then i thought possible by having the dampers set too high.

harder is not always better. not for street.

just my 2 cents.

edit: not corner balance. compression test to get the spring rates

??? I was only stating what was said in the auction page. Subie Boy said he was looking at spring rate of 7k front / 5k back.

However according to the auction page it's stating that the Liberty application has a 8.7k/8.7k for the BL5/BL9, which may be too firm for his needs on the street.

It goes on to say that JustJap (the seller) can adjust the spring rate to something else if requested, I assume through replacing the default springs with another set of springs that have a different spring rate. My understanding is that the spring rate is set during the manufacturing process, and cannot be changed or adjusted, only replaced.

Not sure what your post was getting at, but I can only hope the seller would be honest enough to change the springs to whatever spring rate he requests.

ok. my bad.

misread.

but why 7/5???

it's a 2.5i and not a GT or a 3RB.

Haha. Because his friend has that setup, he's ridden in his friend's car, he liked it, so now he wants to duplicate the same. Always good to model it after a positive experience.

i think he really needs to get a good handle on what else was done.

sways, endlinks and generally any other handling mods can change how the coils feel.

even ride height. can change it.

Haha. The boy's on a mission, sure, but he's also a budget! :derisive: Not everyone has the luxury to get it all done at once, not to mention sticking with the premium brands.

It's a choice between getting what you can now with the budget you're presented with, or growing old saving up for the best available. Nothing wrong with the former as long as he's told the pro's and con's of both choices, and in the end he makes the decision himself. :ok:

So, one thing at a time, and take the time to enjoy each stage.

totally agree. i think the big concern here is that if he goes with somethign cheap and decides to take the car in another direction, the $$ he's spent will do down the drain.

Yes, you're correct as well. But I think if he was going to track it and push the parts really hard, this might be an issue. However this is all just for standard street use, so he could get away with the use of non-top quality parts.

Most parts come with at least a year of warranty, so he'll get some use and enjoyment out of it. So it's not like it's going be a complete loss within a few weeks after purchase.

Here are some DRAFT pics....will do review on the weekend!

My car is dirty and I would like to have washed it first but I took pics today so might as well share it with you all. Will do more pics over the weekend and I will post in the POST YOUR MODS section.

Let me know what you guys think, I had a boot & back seat full of the old suspension, sway bars etc!! So it maybe a bit lower there but its dead even otherwise. The short ride back home from the shops was awesome and the sway bars is also a very noticeable improvement. Overall, very happy so far!!

At the shops, I love the wheels....let me know what you guys think they are ADR racing rims....very lightweight and all 18's. Frank the owner knows me through my mate and said that he can do a good deal for me on those wheel & package so let me know if you guys like any of them!

As mentioned, I will post more pics on the weekend after I wash the car, etc. And will do a full review!!
