My story is straight, Taylor just went off the Whiteline catalogue.

From the manual you have linked in this thread it is clear that the swaybar mounts differently to the links than your factory one, which is something you should have noticed when changing the swaybar.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Thanks Robbks,

I can't seem to find that link listed on the whiteline site for my car, however would something like the below work with the existing link and square bracket? If not, what is the part number of the bracket you've shown?

no, you can't add the C-links t the I links
NFI what the whiteline part is, ring them and ask or e-mail them the picture

their catalogue has gone to sh!t lately
in late 1993 the Gen1 moved to C-Link rear end
you could get a pair of rear lalteral arms from a gen2 or GC8 impreza or SF5 forester and do the "c-link conversion" that most of the early RS owners do to get around this issue

Hi,

We thought we may help out here as this came up in a google alert we have.

The reason this bar did not fit is because it is for the later model than yours.

You need a BSR17xz annd that comes with a different bar and the links you need are supplied in the sway bar kit .

Our catalogue on website is very informative and we not long ago had an award for it as it has pictures of most products and sizes and dimensions plus notes to say what they fit so it is quite easy to see what fits each model and we are unsure what has happened here but obviuosly some how the incoreect bar was supplied either by the customer selecting wrong or supplier but all in all you need the BSR17xz there is no link etc that will help get this bar you have fitted you need the correct bar.

I see you think that the BSR19xxz is 22mm and would be better and quoted that the bar ranges from 19-22mm or a 3mm range but this is incorrect the middle hole that is measured as 22mm over the OE positin then the holes either side make about the diffrence of half a mm but really that is just a guide it is actually just more deflection rate on the harder setting softer on the soft setting as the bar diameter is not different.

A 22mm bar with very short arms could have the same deflection rate as a 27mm bar with very long arms it all depends on the lever rate etc that gets very complicated and takes a deflection tester to show.

The BSR17xz measures very close to same deflection rate as the BSR19xz due to the shape of the bar and arm length and tested the best option for the rear of your model on our suspension data logger to give the best amount of grip and nuetral feel to the car hence why we kept it selling for your model.

Bigger is not always better and in sway bars bigger is often worse and can lower gripo and lap times especially if used stiff lower springs

Cheers to the Whiteline Guys.

the problem with the online catalogue is the info is a bit vague
http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_det ... er=BSR17XZ

The Description States
BSR17XZSway bar - 20mm X heavy duty blade adjustable<back>
SUBARU LIBERTY BC SEDAN, BF WAGON INCL RS TURBO (LEGACY) (10/89-5/94)

there is nowhere in the description that states it comes with the I links or that it's to suit the I link setup.

I do agree it has this mentioned
NOTES: IMPORTANT
Suits 89 - 9/92 models - 3 point adjustable

the title needs adjusting to reflect that it does not suit the later models with C links

question though
could the whiteline I links be mated to the later model bar?

Thanks for the fantastic amount of info Whiteline!!
I originally asked my supplier for the BSR17XZ not wanting to go too stiff but was advised later that the 19XXZ would be better.
It wasn't until I fitted the bar, realized that is doesn't quite fit right and managed to pull the manufacture date off the car - 05 / 1992. So yes, I need the BSR17XZ.

That's good to know. I think I'll be happy with the 19mm stiffness, I'm not looking for race performance, just something that doesn't feel like a tug-boat :P

Again, really good advice as lower / stiffer springs are my next upgrade.
