MY03-06 Spec B 18x7's on a MY03 RX?

For gen4's they take 215/40/18 standard or you can get 225/40/18

Well subaru charge $1022 each rim so compared to that yes.

225/40/18 is entirely legal on an 18 x 7.

I'm happy to stand corrected! I was looking at the RE050A specification sheet from Bridgestone and it lists the 225/40R18 'Approved Rim Width' as 7.5-9.0

Theres no way Id run a 225 on a 9" rim either. When I had 225's on my 8" rims they sat flush with the rim lip. A bit stretched on a 9".

I have had a few different tyre places quote me on 225's so whilst i know a lot of tyre companies would fit them regardless of whether they're illegal or not just for the money, i agree that they are probably roadworthy!

But its not illegal or unroadworthy so why would you be concerned?

Its purely a "recommendation" from a tyre company, not the law.

So now that I have them, i have been doing some more research on tyres..

According to that calculator, I'd be better off with 225/35/R18's, as there would only be a 6mm difference in circumference? Anybody disagree?

Also there has been some members running CS9's on their Gen3s so I'd check out what they were running, and how correct the speedo is vs GPS...

Check with your state's department of transport as to the max increase in tyre diameter that you can go without needing an engineer's certificate and get a tyre that fits on that wheel to suit. Your speedo can be recalibrated as necessary and even if it doesn't checking against GPS on a flat, straight road should be enough for most people.

I personally don't like low profile tyres (45 is too much of a compromise already and any lower is just worse IMO) so would prefer the 225/45 R18 over the /35 but then as long as you are looking at good models of tyres (eg Micheling PS3, RE050a, etc) get the largest size which is cheapest
