Running 225/40/18 on MY07 STi Rims?

So which tyres would people recommend for 225/40/18??

I've run Contisport 2 in that size and they performed really well, got very good milage from them too.

Running Goodyear Asymetric F1 at the moment and quite happy with them although it's too early to give a good review (under 1000klms) Happy that they are made in Germany and I was told I may have to wait 3-4 weeks but got them in less that 2 weeks. Took up the Goodyear "get 4 pay for 3" deal not long ago and they came to around $300 per corner.

Both were in 225/40/18 on 7.5" rims.

I am thinking of going 235/40/18 on 18x8.5 +42 on stock billies and stock springs without rolled guards, if I absolutely have to will roll guards but prefer not to.

Mate in pretty sure your going to have to roll your guards...well at least at the rear.

On my 18x8.5 +38 (only stick out 4mm more than yours will), with 225/40 it scrubs a bit at the back on big bumps and sometimes on small bumps when I have stuff in the back. The 225/40's were also slightly stretched.

So if you want 235/40's I'd say a roll is definitely on the cards.

also think about Michelin Pilot Sport 3. Mine have been fantastic as a road tyre. very good grip in the dry, great resistance to aquaplaning and great wet grip. I'll be coming back for another set when they eventually wear out.

cost me $300 a corner for 225/50 17 late October last year. 225/40 18 could well be cheaper as it is a more popular size. I know at the time that 235/45 17 was $30 cheaper per corner.

I just noticed beaurepaires were having a 25% sale on dunlop tyres...

I called up beaurepaires (wetherill park) to enquire about some tyres and found out that the discount (indirectly) applies to some goodyear tyres... including the eagle f1 asymmetrics (motor mags tyre of the year)

got quoted $359 per corner... discounted from $480 (RRP) per corner... <--- that RRP sounds a bit inflated... (kindly correct me if im wrong)

i think the sale ends on the 2nd of july if anyone is interested... check the website about the end date tho... dont take my word for it...

Nice, the local price on the Michelins looks quite good.

From what I have read (random forums, so not guaranteed fact haha) the Pilot Sport 3 is a softer and more comfortable tyre as opposed to the more performance oriented Pilot Sport 2. Despite what the numbers indicate, the 3 is not an upgrade to the 2, just different. The Super Sport is the latest release... so not a huge amount of user reviews yet.

Beaurepaires is currently running 25% off all Dunlop tyres when you buy 4. The Dunlop Sport Maxx TT looks alright, the Sport Maxx GT is reportedly a bit too hard.

Goodyear Asymmetric (and the soon to be released Asymmetric 2) also get great write ups. The original Asymmetric has a huge rolling resistance, so overall could make your car a bit thirstier? Maybe.

Falken FK452 is usually recommended when it comes to bang for your buck.

I'm looking at the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT from tire rack.

It's about $800-900 delivered to my door from the US for a set of four, which is pretty great!

Has anyone had experience with this tyre? It got good reviews on that website.

How much would it cost to fit tyres usually?
