Are these tyres ok?

Postby Woodduck » Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:58 am

Im due (overdue to be truthfull) for a set of tyres. I was planning on just keeping the spec B wheels on it and just replace the tyres. But iv since found a set of wheels that iv fallen in love with. Enkei eurosports. Iv got a very good deal (imo) on a set of these with chrome nuts etc and Nexen N3000 tyres. What are these tyres like does anyone know?

Ahh yes i see. So its kind of split as to if they are a good tyre or not. Iv asked the guy for a price on upgrading to a better tyre. Just wait and see i guess

I'm picking up some new tyres this wknd and want an opinion on them, they might suit your rims at this price and size.

Kumho Ku23's 225/40/18 $150 per tyre....any thoughts?

(Ps sorry to hijack but they might be better suited for you also)

They are a cheap tyre, both in price and in quality. If you need a budget tyre you should go for something trusted like Bridgestone Supercats which are a really really good entry level tyre that don't cost much at all. I trust them enough to have put them on my gf's car.

The Nexens are only worth putting on the car when you are about to sell it so you can advertise FOUR NEW TYRES! Even then I may not want to wish such poor quality tyres on someone else and would rather give them worn good tyres so they can then spend their money on something better.

I remember when my mate bought a WRX and the seller put a new set of cheap nasty tyres on there but my mate was determined to wear the tyres down to nothing to get his money's worth before he put new tyres on. After sliding off the Batman Ave embankment and his car hanging on by a roadside shrub he got rid of the cheapies asap even though they had lots of tread left.

Similar story for me. Wasn't all that upset with the Nangkangs on mine until I attacked a wet corner at 6/10's with Audrey in the car. Scared the shit out of both of us (Audrey more being the passenger) as the fronts let go for a half second. Only took a week or two of investigation and shopping around before those shitters were off the car.

I'm referring to the Nexens (all of them) being cheap tyres. They are aimed at the end of the market where tyre shops need a really really cheap crap tyre to package with wheels and get them out the door. Kumho have many good tyres in their range I am not sure if the ones mentioned here are any good.

The tyres on my mate's WRX were Hankook Ventus K102 (not to be confused with the K104 which are much better but are discontinued now).

After some research, my next set of tyre's are going to be Kumho KU31.
Best bang for buck imo, Can't go wrong!

225/45/18 - just getting these since the stockies on a spec b are 45's they seem to fill up the gap since my car is not lowered.

Im not sure where they are at these days, but the best bang for buck tyre I have ever bought is the Hankook Ventus range. Ive had them on everything from MX5, to Mercedes ML270, to 350z....
They grip, they rip, and they wear well.
