my new rims!

now with pics!

so after long searching and being fucked around by sellers of other rims i ended up picking these up for a steal, here is a pic of what they are:

there XHP Jet chromes, now i dont overly like them as they are  but there 19 by 8s with +45 offset, nankang 225/35 tyres- 2 are near new, 1 has pretty decent camber wear and 1 is down to belts, so tomorrow morning first thing im off to the tyre shop to replace at minimum 1 tyre and prob the other one aswell- im just going to replace with nankangs again, then in a little bit il upgrade to some better tyres.

so i dont like the chrome at all really, if i were buying brand new i def wouldnt have gotten these but for the price i couldnt say no.

so im thinking what i might do with them is have them blasted and powder coated a matt black or really dark grey or bronze even (depending on what colours are available) and if i go black then maybe having a thin red pinstripe painted around the rim..
like this:

what are your guys thoughts? il post pis of them on the car tomorrow when theres daylight.

Should look good as a dark coloured wheel. Besides, who can resist a bargain? But yeah, try to replace x2 tires at a time (as in either the x2 fronts or x2 rears) if the budget allows.

They look good if u get them matt black..

this is interesting.. i didnt know it was even an option to strip back the chrome and apply another colour? What would something like that cost?

Same as it would to get any rim powder coated... Set of 4 approx $320 + GST :D

I think a matt or satin black on that design would look very good :D Can't say I think the red pinstripe is a good idea... Unless you get some other red bits on your car (Red number plate :D ), I think it'll look a bit out of place.

pics up!

yeah i think it will def be a matt finish as i think with the glossy black it makes the tyres look ugly if there not super tire shined, it will more than likely be a matt black, but i do like the colour of the wrx tungsten rims, but i doubt powder coaters carry that kind of colour.

now i just need bigger prettier brakes!

That was my first thought on seeing the pics. The brakes are sooooo tiny inside those wheels now

powder coating in black or gun metal would be my suggestion but leave the red lip off as that should only be used on Volk Racing Time Attack CE28N Wheels imo.

is there an issue with using photobucket? i only put them on there to post, i can do it another way if preferable?

the rear brakes are really tiny, powder coating will be the way, probably not for a few weeks yet tho, i just did the ring around for some cheap tyres and picked up 2 19" bridgestone potenzas for 198 fitted, not a bad deal, have about 60 - 70% tread on em to.

I'm stealing Mano's line... Drop that shit!

Those rims really need to be on a dumped car... & they would look much better in black IMO.

Remember, when you powder coat, a gloss finish isn't a real high gloss. The big trick is finding the right colour... A dark car does look good with a lighter coloured rim... Gun metal perhaps? :)

There is a heap of selection mate... They even have pink!

Too bad it's not STI pink :P

If I were you, I'd look for a gunmetal / pewter colour... Would look sweet on the black & it would give those rims a new lease on life :)

I know here is Sydney, those rims are fairly common on Commies etc.
