RAYS VOLK Racing TE37 Super Laps...for MY06 Wagon

Postby RUSHN » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:47 pm

hey guys,
have been discussing this and hijacking other threads so thought its only right to put it in my own new topic.

So...I want to get these rims on my MY06 TBSTi Wagon:
RAYS VOLK Racing TE37SL 18x9.5 +22mm 5x100 (Aggressive Face)

found this on nasioc website - ravspec distributer
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=2335590
(scroll down to see the sweet red wrx!)

Ive spoken to AutoTechnik in Sydney - he can only find flat-faced versions in the 5x100. Ive discussed its probably not a good or cost effective idea to get my PCD changed to 5x114.3. Too complicated, will add too much width, and i dont know enough about it all so not wise for me to go down that path...another option is 17 x9.5 which is slightly concave according to the ravspec guy on this forum:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7585

but the 18x9.5 seem the best option being low offset:

difficulty im having with google and sellers is that the aggressive face 18x9.5's look like this was made as a custom order - finding it impossible to find that spec made on any other website...
i really want to get these but need some help - rooby has already helped with some fitment calculators - thanks! but will keep researching.
Am getting guards rolled on thursday at Prestige Auto Dent Rpairs in Artarmon and then organising KW V2 Coilovers from Sam at City Performance Centre, Artarmon...so its all happening!!
thanks in advance for any help. cheers

did i mention i want the aggressive concave look? so yes, basically flat faced is not an option.

not that i want this crazy camber...but this amount of concave is perfect:

http://www.stancenation.com/2012/03/26/ ... 4-blitzen/

as if anyone actually would drive like that??! crazy...but awesome rims!!

you will most likely have to go a custom order due to our shitty pcd. My mate had a set of te37sl's for sale not too long ago but i think they are sold already plus not in the spec you are after.

also as they are sl's they may need a minimum group order to make them. hopefully not.

i would advise getting your guards rolled/pumped after getting the rims. cause you will most likely have to do it again

TE37SL's are probably the best looking wheels ever created. i was going to get a set in 18x9.5 +45 a while ago but i wasn't sure with the sizing and concave'ness so i got the Rota Grids in 18x9.5 +38 to compare and found out that it had a lot of poke, i had to roll & pump my guards and I had to run decent stretch tires.

18x9.5 +22 is going to stick out quite a fair bit and unless you go low and add negative camber, it's going to look very odd in my opinion. if you don't want to go low and go all "Stance Nation" then go with a sensible setup like 18x8.5 or 9 +45, it won't have any concave but it'll look the part.

I've been in your position before and I had to ditch my dream wheels and choose a custom set of Work S1R's because I didn't feel that the sizing was perfect but don't let me discourage you, just find a way to make 18x9.5 +22 work :P

8.5 +45 isn't very "stance nation"ish. Even 9 +45 isn't that aggressive.

18x9.5 +22, will be extremely aggressive. Having had 18x9.5 +40, an additional 18mm would be hectic lol. It'll be much easier to fit them on the front, the rears are a different story though.

At a minimum you'd have to roll and pump your guards to fit them + at least -3 degrees camber I reckon.

If you do decide to go ahead with it, it'll be a long and painful process but it'll be worth it in the end.

In regards to the TE37SL you'll have to do a custom order as that size and offset isn't in their catalogue, not in 5x100 anyways. I read somewhere it's a minimum order of 5 sets from VOLK for a custom order.

i meant that 18x8.5/9.5 +45 would look just right for the Liberty, not "Stance Nation"ish.

but i agree with drndrn, you would have to do some guard work and negative camber is a must. i would love to see your fitment when it's done!

cheers Darren - i just realised id written on your topic about your sweet Enkei's - ive printed out your write-up and am realising i may be in over my head!
But you look like you serioiusly know what ur doing - would you even contemplate something with +22 offset?! i guess im mainly worried about the "long and painful process"...mainly cos ive never done this before, dont have any ability, space or tools to really do anything myself - and seriously need as much advice for the process as possible.
Spoke to bridgestone today and the guy who's rolling my guards tonight - both said they wouldnt even touch my job - ie not sell me tyres or do the flaring work required - what the....!!!?? never heard that before!
but, i want to see if i can do this. Main issues:
- 1 guy told me itd cost $1000 per corner to flare my guards if painting/bodywork was needed - i almost punched him!! haha - jk, but seriously?! is that what could be required here?
- stretching tyres = more tyre wear
- neg camber = more tyre wear
-- tyre wear= not great for my job (Medical Device rep ~35-40,000kms/year)
- there has to be a limit for offset!? is 22 beyond that limit for this car? darren you had +35 before is that the limit?!

man, i hope this is do-able...thanks guys

$1000 a corner is his way of telling you he cant be bothered doing it. itd be expensive, but nowhere near that much
some guys dont like too much guard work because paint can crack easily, esp if you need lots more room then youre just going to end up respraying
as for fitting stretched tyres...some places do and some places dont do it. youll have to ring around lots of places, depends on what size tyres youre wanting to fit
http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/showthr ... etch-tyres but do some more research as well
yes to both stretch + camber for the tyre wear
and no thats terrible for your job if youre doing 800kms a week  ...youll be on good terms with your local tyre place $$$$
what tyres would you be planning to fit?
for a daily driver i wouldnt advise this sort of setup
limit for offset.... theres no limit how far you can go if you really want to. hell you could run negative offsets with custom widebody arches and 4" lips if you really wanted to
i think darrens +35 was a very good 'limit' (per se) without getting ridiculous

unfortunately our liberties just arent made for crazy wide wheel fitment

there's someone in the states that's running 18x9 +19 SSRs on his legacy, he did a great job tucking them in the rear so i'm sure 18x9.5 +22 should be possible but with a bit of work. after seeing that setup i was confident enough to order 18x9.5 +30 but i would've went up to +25.

but if you're going to go flush & aggressive you're going to face an interesting process.

Believe me when I say I've been tempted, but I'm rather picky about how my wheels will look. I'm not a HUGE fan of having a bucket load of camber @ the rear. I like the car to have more neg camber @ front than the rear. So +22 would be a bit out of my rear unless I wanted to flare my guards, but that requires more work and money, and then when it comes time to sell your car.. Well.. You're a bit screwed, because you're going to have to repair the flares back to their factory state (let's be honest, 99% of potential liberty buyers will not exactly find flared guards appealing).

It's your personal choice in the end, I know that you'd be the first Gen IV liberty with TE37SL's. I've seen a gen3 and looks pretty good.

Also another thing you've got to factor in is our subaru wheel bearings, they're known for being weak. I've only been through 1 pair of bearings but I'm sure if I had continued running my previous set up that number would have been higher.
