Running 225/40/18 on MY07 STi Rims?

Howdy gents,

My current tyres are worn to the point they are trying to kill me so it is time for a new set.

Reading the Tyre FAQ (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=98) I was looking at going 225/40/18.

I run the stock Eneki rims on the MY07 STi. I believe this rim is 7" wide? In that case Michelin state 225/40 won't fit and recommend I go 225/45.

In a previous topic (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11980&hilit=225%2F40%2F18) people talk about running 225/40 on 7.5" wide which I think they might mean the MY08 rims?

I am ordering from the US (because it is half the price) so I can't really have a yarn with the tyre place in person. Can anyone help me out with their experience/expertise?

ive got 225/40's on on spec b wheels (7 inch wide)

I've got 225/40 on my07 STi rims, it's no issue

+1 on everyone saying it's fine.

I ran 225/40-18 on my STi wheels before as well. No issues. It's about 0.5 inch lower in overall height, which makes for a bit larger fender gap. Bothered me a tad but I'm sure it won't be too noticeable.

So which tyre place from US you buying from? I may be buying new tyres soon so maybe we can do it together to possibly save on shipping?

Going to try the Michelin Pilot Super Sports (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... uper+Sport).

I was hanging out for the Goodyear Asymmetric 2's, but they have been delayed with no eta.

Last time shipping for x4 was about $200 to my door in 1 week, which I thought was mighty impressive.

guys, im prettys sure the stock enkei's on the MY07 STi are 7.5" wide...

It even says it in their brochure http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=12006 - "5 x STI ENKEI Alloy Wheel 18 x 7.5 55mm offset"

In that case, 225/40's are fine... i just picked up a second hand set of RE050A 225/40's... keen to get them on and go for a test drive...

You could probably go 235's... but ive heard that there is too much/more side wall flex during hard cornerning

FYI Subaru Australia changed the tyre size for the MY08 TB STI to 225/40/18……….

Man, 225/50 is fine for hard cornering so 235/40 isn't going to give you excess side wall flex. If anything, the slightly larger sidewall will help the tyre comform to irregularities in the surface better. 40 series is more a fashion statement than a performance enhancement.

yeah? maybe im reading too much into it.

235's would definitely give the car a phatter & nicer stance from behind... plus more grip with more rubber on the road

I think re050a are pretty damn good for the money now or ku36 Bang for buck.

I am thinking of going 235/40/18 on 18x8.5 +42 on stock billies and stock springs without rolled guards, if I absolutely have to will roll guards but prefer not to.
