Bilstein Shock absorbers.. worth the upgrade?

Postby toadcat » Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:21 am

Hey all
I have a set of standard RX Liberty shock absorbers with ricey ricey kings springs w/ whiteline front and rear 22mm bars..
Was wondering what an upgrade to Bilstein shocks would do? Would it be worth $500? Or should I just wait and save up for Tein's?

They're worth $500.00 if they are still in good condition and they have never been lowered. You can seldom tell as the stock springs could have been fitted back on when in actuality the dampers were lowered heaps when on the car. You really need to take the springs off and push the pistons down then see how smooth and consistent the the compression/rebound stroke is. I'd never buy a whole strut assembly without being able to do this test. Also check obvious things such as dents in the body (very bad for monotube struts).

(You'll get a much better ride than your stock dampers). As for the King Springs though, they'd be the weakest link.

The difference between Bilstein shocks & standard shocks will be signifcant :D Coupled with the suspension mods you have, it's be even better :D ... Although I would get rid of those fully sick king springs :P

For the money, I think it's a good move... But I would have them inspected / tested before installation just incase there are any minor things that can be sorted out :D

Yeah I'd love to buy them however inspection wouldn't be easy to do - they're located in QLD and I'm in NSW :(

Anyone wanna volunteer and go check em out? :P

GAH - someone got the idea off me and bought them! :angry2:
