'03 B4 calipers

Postby AshN117 » Wed Dec 31, 2014 1:56 am

Hi I am new to the forum. I own a 2003 model B4. Am looking to put red calipers on the brakes but not sure how to go about it. I've seen plastic covers on eBay but I need to know the size of my calipers. Would this be a good inexpensive option? If so, what are the dimensions fit the calipers on my car? If not, what's a better solution?

Thanks for any help given :)

It's pretty much a terrible option :)
If you're not that confident, you can paint your brakes while on the car, you just mask it up and spray on a couple of coats and leave it for a few hours.
MCM did an ep on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3mhq_BrnU0

Obviously for best results you should remove them from the car, but you can do an acceptable job with them on.

+1 for these on a b4. Mate has just the front calipers with some bendix race pads. Very solid braking, enough to make you queezy with his driving

Leaving them stock would be a better option than putting fake plastic covers on them. :)

Thanks everyone for your responses, but I didn't ask for snide remarks as per the above quote.

It's your car you can do what you want (and you should) but most car enthusiasts will snigger at you if you have plastic brake covers. Expect similar responses in most places except maybe the excel ricing forum. We could probably do without the casual use of a sexuality used a pejorative, but the gist remains.

Snide remarks? I just got straight to the point with the plain truth. Some people will say your car do what you want, but there's some things that should NEVER be added to a car full stop.

Be careful here.

You came in and asked if plastic covers are a good idea for your brakes. Did you even stop to think about this before asking? Plastic, stuck to a part of your car that gets very hot (and is incredibly crucial for road safety), that to anyone with half a clue about cars, will mark you as someone who has less than none?

The "snide remark" comes from the guy who probably has the best reputation (and most experience) with "real" brake upgrades on this forum, and he gave you his opinion on what you'd suggested (there was nothing snide about it, though some may question his choice of derogatory term, the meaning was crystal clear). He also suggested a "better solution" for you. Which was *exactly* what you asked for.

Go read this thread: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=15726. You may learn something about not only aesthetics, but also functionality - the Brembos that feature heavily in that thread give both.
