WHEEL STUD RAGE

Hey Guys

Pretty new to all this but my bf is well in the car scene.. buried deep to the point of a car mafia.

Anyway, I've encountered an issue with my wheel studs. My car is a 2009 Subaru Liberty GT Premium turbo.
The other day I got ran off the road and had to go up an island or get totalled - in the process the driver's front tyre blew (no damage to wheel thankfully) and rear driver's tyre developed a bubble instantly. Changed the blown with the space saver in the back and got home quickly. Jacked it up that night with the plan to rearrange two remaining wheels and put on back axles, and use two spare WRX wheels on the fronts as a two day temporary measure. Went to undo the nuts on the space saver and all came off ridiculously easy.. except one. It was easy to do up when I put it on but this one would not budge. BF tried and he couldn't either. He thought I had done them up too tight (yet the others were too easy to get off). I know I certainly didn't cross thread it on as it went on and tightened as smooth as silk. Long story short, he couldn't get it off, his dad tried... and snapped the stud. :angry2:

Since it's a 5 stud, I can still drive around on it with the remaining 4 but I prefer to get it fixed asap. It's booked in for the following weekend. Anyway, I got the other wheels set up with new tyres today and went to swap them over with the WRX ones and put the new ones on... Driver's front came off fine. Passenger front... same thing.. 1 nut acting like it's cross threaded. Would not budge.. BF ended up snapping the stud. Definitely was not cross threaded - thinking maybe the thread has expanded and the studs are soft :?:
Has anyone encountered this before? I certainly don't have the strength to over tighten it, it's seems at this rate I will never be able to change a flat tyre without it resulting in a clamped nut/snapped stud, potentially costing me a couple hundred each time. Definitely looking at going aftermarket on these studs/nuts.

Are they the stock wheel nuts? I've come across cheap sh!t nuts before which caused all kinds of grief.

New studs are only $8 from Subaru and take 10-15 mins each corner including jacking up the car if you're handy with a spanner

Pretty sure they are.. my thought is that theyre shit nuts, however Anth (bf) is more about expansion and softness of the stud.

Gonna contact S Technic on monday to have a chat and see what they reckon. Aftermarket studs and nuts seems to be the best thing to me, otherwise it's gonna cost me about $400 to have the stud and tyre replaced everytime i get a flat.
