R spec tyres - which one and which size?

Personally I'm going with the RS3 tyres, in 18" form, which is mainly due to the fact I don't want to vary my car too much from street spec on the track as its as much about learning the limits of my car as getting fast lap times.

But I know how much you want to beat me on the track again so go 17" and full slick

my car has 235 on a 7.5 rim which is the sti 08 lib rim, im actually looking into new semi slicks for my car will be watching this thread

currently my tyre joint wants me to put some yoki's on as he is recomending them not sure which type they are though

What's the tyre life of R compound tyres like compared to road tyres?

Looking for new tyres for my 17s, either cheaper semi slicks or good tyres (Potenza RE002).

I've decided on the toyo r888 in medium compound configuration

These are an r comp rubber in semi slick style tread pattern and wear

Size is 235 40 18

At 300 a pop I think they're good value and should last 6 or so track sessions

Will update once I have them for commentary etc

I know I will happily run 235s on 7.5 and 245s on 8 on the road but with the difference in pressures and harder driving of the track is it still fine?

I know people have already said yes but I just want to confirm before I spend dollars.

They can be, but they wouldn't last long with daily driving and are pretty much dry only.
You could drive to the suspension shop with them legally though.

Within reason, of course - too wide and you start to have issues with being too close to the suspension and/or guards (which depends on offset), and you'll end up unable to get as much turn lock-to-lock too

I drove a Targa Tassie car the other day with semis on it.....in the rain. Was NOT fun, but in the dry they would be the ducks guts.

If its wet, be very careful.

I have a set of 02 STI rims fitted with federal 595 RS-R.

This was the set up I had at the Marulan track day last year, although the tyres were pretty much completely worn out.

I have got new 595 RS-R and have had one track day on them so far, with the results being mixed. I didn't beat my best time at wakefield but had a few car and confidence problems, but was slowing getting on top of it before the day ended.

I haven't tried any other tyres but another one I was told to consider was the Toyo R1R, which I did consider before going again with the Federals.

I'm hoping to have completed a couple of track days before the liberty day in September, but if you want to try out the federals on the day you are more than welcome to.

Thanks Joel appreciate it mate - will be happy to swap rims on the day if you're keen

In terms of toyos in the wet - these will be dedicated track tyres not for daily driving so no issues there for me unless it pelts down at a track day
