19" tyre recommendation

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to all this stuff, I currently have a MY09 lib sports edition and want to put Tenzo-R CUZCO V1 19"s on it. I've asked the guy about tyres and got this back:

"In the 19” option, tyre size is 225x35x19 and we have Toyo Proxes4 for $225 each."

Does anyone have any advice as to the suitability, cost, value of this recommendation? Also, with the 19's on the car would i have to get the guards rolled or anything like that?

It's generally the width and offset of the rims that determine guard rolling requirements.

Rolling diameter should be negligible.
You are just sacrificing tyre sidewall height to get an extra inch of rim.

Depending on the width of your rim, if it was suggested you go 225 you could likely also fit 235, although that might increase potential to need guard rolling.

As for the tyres, I haven't used them so can't comment.
There are also a number of other posts around where people talk about their tyre preferences so that might help.

I've had the Proxes4's on my GT forester and was very happy with them.
they seemed to have nice stiff sidewalls, gripped well on gravel/ wet road and seemed fine in the dry.
Were a little noisier than some but not too obtrusive.

I now have Hankook Ventus K110's on my 18's on the Lib. on recommendation from my local mechanic, he runs them on a number of fleet cars he looks after, good wear and grip.
can't fault them so far and similar price to the toyo's ($190 fitted for 18")
So far as good as the super expensive Bridgestone RE050A's at 1/3 the price
