Intermittant flat tyre feeling

Postby olliej » Mon May 23, 2011 8:08 pm

Ive just purchase an 08 tb sti wagon and ive noticed an intermittant tyre wobble on the left rear. Feels like a flat tyre. It happens only at low to moderate speed (30-50 kph) and has a flat tyre like sound.

Im going to swap the wheel tonight; however not confident that it is the issue. Previous owner said he had a similar rear left problem last service but he noticed it only at high speeds ( its due a service shortly) and subaru changed the rear left strut under warranty. Ill be talking with docklands subaru tomorrow.

So whilst i work through these options, anyone have any other suggestions to what it may be?

I will take it into subaru here in perth if its no easy fix.

Is the driveshaft nut tight?
Is the wheel bearing noisey?
Check all the suspension arm bolts and nuts to make sure they are tight.

Had a good poke around when changing the wheel to the spare. Looks like a 2.5yr old car should. All tight and no leaks.

Swapped the wheel and it may of fixed it. Acid test is when it goes over the pits later this week. Hopefully its just a weight fallen off the rim.

Hasn't been through any mud?

If all the weights are on the rim then mud build up on the inside of the rim can cause it to be out of whack.

Also if its worn unevenly for whatever reason it can sometimes become out of balance, although its rare to cause any major issues like you've described.
