Coilovers for BE5

Postby Lachlan » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:12 pm

Hey guys, New to forum so take it easy on me.

I have a 2001 Liberty. At the moment its a daily, But im hoping to start taking it to track days soon. Im planning to put a 04 wrx engine in it sometime next year. (Dont try to convince me out of it, or tell me to buy a B4, Car cost me next to nothing). Anyway, in preparation for the new engine and extra KW, Im doing some Suspension and Brake upgrades. So here is what i've planned/Purchased so far.

Just purchased:
F+R Strut tower braces
H Brace
Whiteline 22mm Front Sway bar
Whiteline 20mm Rear Sway bar
Whiteline F+R Adjustable Sway bar Links

Next on the list: (no order)
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit
Coilovers
Enkei STi Forged 18s and tyres
WRX 4Pot Fronts brakes
WRX 2Pot Rear brakes

So my question is about coilovers. Really i know next to nothing about them, I know how they work and basic setup etc. But i have no idea what to buy for my car. Can you guys suggest a few Packages that would suit my Lib? My budget is $1k, now i know that is about half what i need, but at this point im looking to wait around and buy second hand when the right packages comes around. What other subies (if any) share the 3Gen suspension setup?

Anyway, dont flame me to much blah blah blah im a noob etc. I appreciate your help. If you need more info just ask.

Cheers
Lachlan

BC coilovers could probably be had for close to that price.

I was considering these before I decided to go the cheaper option and get bilsteins with tein springs.

Make sure you get the gold ones (RA)... the red and black ones aren't as durable.

These should be fine for street and some track work, but if you are going to get heavily into tracking the car I would suggest saving up and getting some teins.

Also if you are planning on tracking the car, I would add dot 5.1 brake fluid (Motul make a really good one) and some braided lines (available from PhatGT on these forums) as well as some track pads (Ferodo, ebc etc.) otherwise you may find that your brakes will be cooked after a couple of laps...
