Centre Caps

So I just got my STI centre caps from America - $100 landed...

YAYYYYY

However, they are about 1-2mm too big in diameter and wont fit in my tenzos

They do look awesome though if I put them in place and look from front on...

instead of selling them I think I am going to sand the extra 1-2mm diameter off and try force a fit...

Anyone else done something like this? Its plastic/resin, so I dont think it should be too hard to sand. The clipping mechanism on the caps seems the exact same as my current ones, its just the diameter that seems off...

Get someone with a lathe to do it. It'll look crap if you don't get it perfectly round.

Just bear in mind the resin will cloud up and plastic will become brittle if the materials increases in temperature during rework.

Yeh but that should only be around the edges, which you dont see anyway... Im hoping he can just force them in... If worse comes to worse I wont touch them and Ill just sell them for $100...

Might have to get some decals off the net if I want that look

Were they the 55 mm wide or 65mm wide ones?

It can be machined on a indexing head using a mill. Very complicated process and i dare say you dont have access to one.
Using the Lathe, You can make up a "Sacificial button". Measure the O.D (outside diameter) of the cap, and turn up a blank to suit, making sure your fits an interference fit. Hold the "Button" in the chuck jaws and using a carbide tool tip turn to size.

Yeh I have the 55mm one... My current caps are about 53-54 mm

I would take the wheels to a rim repair place and have them bore the center out to the right size. Simple job.

That way if you ever loose a cap you can just install a new one.
