100,000km service done: leaky front strut

Postby nytrojen » Tue Apr 13, 2010 7:23 am

Well, my baby just came back from her major milestone! Overall, quite happy with subaru fountain gate. Very helpful + friendly. Total cost came to $1250.

Nothing really major to report, except that the front left strut was apprently leaking, but they said it should be fine until at least the next service. So I'm thinking- time to upgrade? The replacement cost would be $435 for one strut, which seems a lot. What u guys reckon? Should I try and find some secondhand billies or keep with stock? Let the arguments begin!

You can try Pedders Comfort Shock. 2 Shocks should not be over 500 if I'm not wrong.

Fitment I don't know how much is it.

Thanks

Thanks Naldo, I'll look into it

The other option is the pedders coilovers that Alex has, which he seems rather happy with

Well IMO if its going to last a little while leave the leaky ones in and save for maybe adjustables
Maybe D2 adjustable coilovers or something like that especially if you plan maybe some track work
Dont have any personally but have a friend who does and he loves the ability to adjust for track

Lol. Nah, my car is strictly for street. Have no intention nor inclination to take her anywhere near a track. She's a showpony, pure and simple. Like one of those little shetlands... sure they're useless, but girls still like them

I wasn't happy with the Pedders comfort dampers, had them on my old car they became quite soft after only about 30,000kms of driving.

Subaru dampers are basically made by KYB you are better off buying direct from KYB I am sure it would be less than $435 for a front pair, let alone one. They should always be replaced as a front/rear pair.

You could always get all 4 re-valved to your own spec…

I think Smythie has done some research regarding this option.

Yeah Smythie has Billies though. The KYB are fully sealed and either can't be revalved or it costs so much to open em up and reseal that you might as well buy new ones.

Pedders coilovers should be really nice, like the one on Alex, that Low but it still comfort for daily driving.
