brake setups

Postby 2minds » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:54 pm

I have an MY02 Liberty b4 with a ECUTEK stage 1, Upgraded CAI and higher capacity TMIC with a customer stainless exhaust.

Brakes are fucked due to me being pretty heavy on them but also party because the car is running more power.

The stock rotors have a bit of a lip and pretty sure the pads are on the go due to the amount of dust.

My car is booked in for service soon and I know STI are going to charge out the ass for a new set of rotors and pads. Looking for a better aftermarket upgrade on the pads and rotors.

Been looking at HAWKS Pads but the Rotors i have nfi.

Any tips?

Thanks

I'd agree with the Dixcel - I had nothing but issues with DBA rotors in a previous Lib.

if your disc only have abit of a lip, you may not need to replace them yet. but you should really get someone to measure them to be sure.

i think more description as to how u drive (track/spirited/street) will assist in better answers to your questions

Pads generating dust is not a determinant of whether it needs to be replaced...

too true.

Find out what the minimum disc thickness is (if they are OEM discs, check with Subaru), as Overload mentions, a lip isn't the end of the world. The discs may just need machining.

I have DBA rotors on mine and they do the job fine. Dixcel has been good to others and may well be my next choice down the track.

I am also running Hawk Ceramic pads on mine and they are fantastic once slightly warm. When stone cold they lack initial bite. AFter a single stop though they have decent bite, great power and great fade resistance (I haven't had them fade in some serious extended use).

Also look at getting the brake fluid flushed
